Notes on a couple of notes

Father Mulcahy has left several signs in the bar. Clarifications! For the past several years, I've handwaved that he has held mass upstairs on Christmas. This year, I'm going to try something new: being less lazy! There will be a post in Mulcahy's journal with a brief summary of the service and some snippets from it. There'll also be some cookies and punch and other things, for afterward (not provided by the mess crew of the 4077th, so with actual tastiness!), so folks can tag in if they want. If you want to say that your pup attended but don't want to tag in, that is a-okay; if you want to say that your pup attended but don't have time to tag in, you can always let me know that they attended and I can throw some mention of them being there into the post. I'll be putting up a link to said post by tomorrow at the latest, so that it can be millitimed and posted to the bar on the 25th.

As the sign says, the service will be Roman Catholic but everyone is welcome, and Mulcahy's also willing to give other denominations a shot, including a Shabbat service for Chanukah. Anything that isn't Roman Catholic, I would probably ask to handwave, since my own limited experience with all things religious begins and ends with Catholicism, but I'll very happily handwave as requested!

As for the other sign, it's been a while, so I'm re-posting it (and this)! What it means: Father Mulcahy is more than willing to hold Mass; perform baptisms, weddings, etc; hear Confession; or just listen. If this is something your pup would take advantage of or would want to do, we can handwave or thread things; I am available by email at not.an.effing.barbie-at-gmail.com. Contact me and working things out can commence! All I would say, as a disclaimer, is that it is the Christmas season which means that my availability is wacky, and that I think the idea has a lot of potential and is something that the character would very much want to do, but as for me: I am doing my absolute flaily best, but am a very lapsed Catholic, and definitely not a priest. If you happen to be in the know and see something wrong, please, do let me know. Thanks! :D

Ooh this looks lovely and I think that Will and Kate might stop by, need to check with Di in terms of both her and my availability but hopefully we can manage some drive by tags.

Also I'm a Quaker even though my pup is Catholic because that's all there is in his time so will be very lazy and good with it.

I was raised Catholic too so very familiar. (Only attending again really for my parents' sake at the moment) So certainly can lend a hand for info.

And drive by tags would be fine. We'll not going anywhere for Christmas, and times might be mixed for family stuff.

Canon just confirmed that the Petrellis are indeed Catholic, so I could see him taking interest. Especially now.

And Aramis would be happy to help with Eucharistic rituals as needed I'm sure.

Rest of my pups aren't that religious.

Um.

*eyes both Sallie and Mal*

I would be interested. Yes. Oh man. There will be email(s).

*eyes Steph* I had planned to throw in Kaylee, so... maybe you and I should talk too. esp. considering Joss's theoretical insinuations about Catholics in the 'verse.

I am not sure that Mal's involvement wouldn't be on a more private scale, but once the idea coalesces in my head I will cc you?

*thumbs up* Works for me. Kaylee is definitely going for reasons of her own (for instance, she's not going to be telling Simon about it, before or after the fact), so my heart is not going to be broken if we just pretend they don't see each other or whatever. *lazy*

Apparently in the original script for the pilot -- you know the scene where they're meandering around the Eavesdown Docks on Persephone, where they pick up Book and Simon (and River) and Lawrence Dobson, and all those shots of how many people there were and how busy it was? There was supposed to be somebody else shilling for passengers... but holding up a sign saying something to the effect of NO CATHOLICS WELCOME. And another group, too, but I don't remember which exactly.

We've never really done anything with this in the 'verse, and I don't know that we necessarily want to (or if we did, what we'd do with it, or what I would do with it for Kaylee), but it's something that was there, at least in theory.

I can definitely see Sariel turning up to a service. She's... probably closest to something like a universalist, given how religion is in her 'verse red: very, very open to interpretation.

Expect drive-by tagging from me, especially as I got snowed in at my parents' at the weekend. Holiday break came early, whee! :)

Athos will swing by, definitely. Dan will as well.

Doc's gonna be out of the bar, otherwise he would - but he could actually use to talk to someone religious eventually, so maybe we could do a thread after the holiday crazy.

I just saw this post today.

And there was a moment of fangirl-ish 'squee!' for it.

Given that, I will be tossing Wellard at the mass- since its been a long time since he's attended anything of the sort.

He and Will should talk since its really been far too long and this could be an excuse.

I'm not the only one who squee-ed? :D!

Er, Chanter that is, not Sariel. :)
