Man, I'm used to rping on LJ but I've never been in a game that has so many communities. I hope this is the right place to do this.

I'm Mel and I'm bringing Shori from Fledgling: A Novel to the bar. It's a novel (obviously), the last one written by the awesome Octavia Butler. Shori is part of a race known as the Ina. In the book, the Ina are the inspiration for all vampire stories and because of that Shori has a few interesting abilities.

For one, if you interact with her she can smell pretty much... well, everything about you. For example, in the book she goes to one of her humans and can smell the person that the human had sex with hours before even after taking a shower. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of her knowing that much about your character go ahead and IM me (TheAngstMonkey) or send me a message via her inbox and I'll say that for whatever reason she can't. Otherwise, I might ask for you to let me know what she would be able to smell and sense off your pup.

Also, if your character is a male vampire there's the possibility for some kind of hilarious interaction but it's totally up to you if that happens (info for that can be found on her profile). If you're the "walking corpse" kind of vampire that might not be as possible but I'm open for anything, pretty much.

I am personally fine with her being able to smell things about my characters (at last count, that's Medusa, Camille Montes, Esfir Yazycova/The Russian Astronaut, Christopher Marlowe - when he decides to show himself - and my new girl Trudy Chacon). In return, though, I should point out that Medusa - thanks to her snakes and preternatural senses - can smell and taste things about Shori, too *g* Should be fun!

Hello!

Really all you need is miliways_bar for In-character and ways_back_room for out of character. It's against the game rules to have any in-character events that aren't at least linked to the first, and it's contrary to general game etiquette to post an out of character thing without a heads up for the affected people in the back room.

ANYWAY.

It is absolutely fine to smell anything and everything about my characters - including the fact that Melaka Fray is sharing a bed with someone who isn't human and has the WEIRDEST PREGNANCY EVER.

If she ever threads with dreamer_fray, I'm... inclined to say it probably wouldn't work quite the same as a male vampire from her canon? Just to keep things simple. I am, however, entirely happy with the idea of him developing a teenage crush as a kind of semi-reaction? Mwahaha. He geeks out over different vampire types enough, so it should be fun. Um... other thing, she could probably smell that he's slayer_fray's twin. I think that covers it!

The crush thing is totally acceptable. Like I said, I pretty much just want to keep it around for "LOL" reasons. The only people I wouldn't be okay muting it for are the actual Ina from her world, because it's a major part of her interaction with them.

Welcome to the game! Eeeee a new mun -- exciting! Well, the most important things Shori can smell about my characters are in their user info, but here's a summary. My two main guys are both dead -- Teja (ostro_goth) works in the forge, has cats, and sleeps with a man, Urquhart (scots_wolf) keeps his aliveness status a secret, is totally crazy even though he controls it well much of the time, sleeps with a number of different women, and has been fed on by a female vampire not long ago.

My secondary ones are all not quite human: Tower (destroy_restart) is a tarot card, and other than the cigars and scotch he likes in the human shape he wears in the bar, I don't really know what he'd smell of. He's an anthropomorphic personification; she can make of that whatever she wants, if she ever meets him. He's not there all that often. Sirona (source_fairy) is a Celtic goddess of hot springs and healing; in the version I take her from, she's very much into computers, too. I'm sure smells of sulfurous water and warm silicon will tell Shori that. Donovan (born_to_it) finally is a wereswan* from the Anita Blake universe, and things could get interesting and hilarious there pretty fast...

* however, they call themselves swanmanes, not wereswans, and are very offended when somebody does. An offended wereswan, though, isn't quite as dangerous to deal with as, say, an offended wereleopard, so it might occasionally be fun to risk it.

Yeah, with Teja that would totally all register, and the female vampire thing would put up a red flag for Shori that says "DO NOT BITE", I think. I mean, I doubt the vamp he encountered as the Ina venom that Shori usually responds to, but he'd still be "claimed" in her mind, in a way.

I think that Tower would probably not smell very "real" if that makes sense. Like he's smell of cigars and scotch and... not much else. If that makes sense and is okay?

Donovan. :) I admit after those books just sort of turned into porn I stopped reading them but I still love all the were creatures that are in them.

I'm Aura and I've only one pup right now. Mia (gorgonfondness or uh...this one) might be a strange case since, while she's more or less human, she does not live on Earth. I don't know how much this will affect her natural scent since her world is like Earth, but she's welcome to smell different from normal humans. She also knows magic, in particular fire and ice, and can smell of them after using them, not to mention smelling like the ingredients of her husband's potions shop when she goes to visit him. She's currently pregnant and due to deliver in about two weeks, which I'm sure adds a ton of fun scents. Anything else we can always work out.

Hmmm. Gotta ask, how much back story are you up for? Because some of my pups - Captain Kirk, for one - drown in the stuff.

Also, suppose your pup is a cyborg. Is his smell different? I mean, he's still alive, but over half of him is machine. (This question applies far more to the Autobots in the bar, no doubt.)

In any case, looking forward to bouncing some of my pups off yours.

Basically, I'm up for whatever you want to tell me. Shori in the book can smell a lot of stuff, she solves a murder with her noise and can tell when people have been touched and by who. If there's too much going on though, she can get confused or if it's something she doesn't know how to describe she wouldn't be able to put her finger on it, basically. I mean, other than Ina her world is a completely normal human world so anything strange or odd she wouldn't have encountered before.

She would probably smell the machine bits.

And...hmmmm. The only one of mine who has real issues with people knowing everything about him is the Trickster (changeinasnap) -- his spoilery backstory's here. But! Like the post says, I'd be totally fine with a thread going that way as long as there's plenty of OOC communication to go with it.

Octavia Butler character INNA BAR!

Welcome to the game! Hi, I'm Kali, and I play She-Hulk gammagammahey, Lockjaw lockjawed, and Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl - that being this journal right here). I'd love for any and all of my characters to meet Shori - gods, the possibility alone for Shori meeting Lockjaw are hilarious. Lockjaw literally travels all over the multiverse via teleportation, so he might smell of flora and fauna from all different kinds of planets, plus he was exposed to the Terrigen Mists as a pup and may smell differently because of that. His way of opening portals to other dimensions/verses/planets probably smells a certain way, too, not to mention that he'll smell of Susan Storm Richards' roast beef when he dines with the fantastic four.

Shulkie will smell different - Daredevil, whose senses are human but enhanced by his accident, once commented that because she's fraught with gamma radiation, she smells interesting - like charged ozone, IIRC.

Hawkgirl will smell of weapons, maybe her past lives, sweat, possibly blood, possibly sex, and probably a bit like the JLA.

And, um, she'll smell interesting things about Shulkie and Hawkgirl, believe me.

hehe. Yes! I've only read Fledgling of hers, I admit, because it's the only one the library has but our Barnes and Noble has Lilith's Blood, Kindred and the Parable series so I'm totally going to try to pick those up once a month if I have the spending money (I only make 200 dollars a month so it's hard for me to buy books). After reading Fledgling though, I mean I was hooked on her. Her style and the themes she played with are just way too much fun.

Lockjaw is probably going to be really confusing to Shori. She won't know how to sort through all those different things.

I haven't read that one, but love Octavia Butler's books *hugs her copies of Kindred and the Parable novels.* I even tried playing Lauren Olamina elsewhere but found her headvoice tricky. I have no problems with her interacting with my group. Be interesting especially with my werewolf George depending on the phase of the moon, if it's more full he'd likely be smelling back.

Hello new person and yay for a not human character. I'm Kate but go by Fi in chat and I play a whole mix of pups who might be interesting.

Will Scarlett and Jane Austen are all pretty much run of the mill humans. Demeter's a goddess and smells of Summer and ripeness, Tumnus from Narnia is a Faun so that's odd, Sameth from the Abhorsen Chronicles can sense Dead things too so that might cause some fascinating complications. Then there's the Pirate King who brings his own background music.

Sweet. About Sameth, Shori isn't Dead. She's Ina. Which is basically like a race that evolved a long side humanity and is very, very much alive. They just tend to age slower, are stronger and faster, have better senses, and bite people and drink their blood to survive. So I dunno if he would sense anything from her...

Okay, basically... I've read Twilight but I seriously blocked out most of it. I don't remember if the vampires in there were the walking dead sort of if they were just altered humans?

I don't think that Shori's pheromones would really work on the walking dead, but they might affect a vampire that's an altered human or a some kind of demon depending. It's up to you how much you want him to be affected or if not at all. I'm pretty lax about it.

They would probably have some interesting conversations about feeding from humans. Ina not only do it but a bulk of their culture is centered around the humans they drink from.
