Yay! Shiny OOC-comm!
So, I'm
kenovay. I've never RPed before, and I think I'm doing rather badly at the moment. *sighs, and pokes Bartleby's OOCness* I can't get the mindset of a possibly unstable American angel. If anyone has any tips, help me? Please? Or failing that, poke me every time I go OOC when I'm talking to your character. Aversion therapy might work.
So, I'm

My suggestion as to how to get the mindset of a character? I'm no expert, but what I would do is this: rewatch the source obsessively, and, if you know of any fanfic that you think portrays the character well, use that as a base as well.
Also, perhaps you could get a What Would Bartleby Do bracelet. ;p

Also, talking American is bloody difficult.

This is my first RPG, too - it is so much more fun than I ever dreamed!

It is good, isn't it? Only I must get myself a plotline. :D

Gets easier with practise.

Damn.
Well, I've seen Dogma a couple of times, and I think you're doing great. It's been a good 5 years since I've done any "decent" rp, so I thought I'd get back in the swing of things with the tried and true "Play the bezerker" method.
Thanks so much for helping me get my feet wet around here.

No problem. Anthropomorphic turtles are fun. :D

As for the mindset, I second the immersion method someone else suggested. I've read P&P something like twice a year for the past four years (although I do need to reread soon to get written dialogue better), and watched the miniseries even more than that. I'm really going more by the miniseries than the book at the moment. My rule of thumb has been that if I can envision movie!Lizzie saying it, it's decently IC.
That doesn't solve the problem of stilted language on my part, but meh. That'll come.

Seriously? Oh, hang on, as a VCD? Because I can't figure out how to make my comp play those.

But it seems that Dogma was one of the CDs a friend borrowed from me two years ago and never returned (bastard). He's still got them, and keeps promising to send them to me, although he hasn't yet. I'll pester him again. I could have them in the mail next week if he'd just get off his duff.

However, if my friend doesn't get me those discs, the point will be moot. *obsessively checks buddy list looking for aforementioned deadbeat friend*
