Derby on Saturday killed me OMG. I had to blow off both a vegan food fayre Sat afternoon and dancing yesterday because ALL MY MUSCLES rebelled. All of them. But particularly my arse and my crotch.
I checked on this last week. The human body reabsorbs about 2/3 of its endometrium. We, and a few other species like elephant shrews and some of the larger primates, shed the rest in a bloody mess because our early fetal development requires a thicker, larger endometrial layer than the body can fully reabsorb. Generally, mammals from species that have large uteri compared to their body sizes are the ones that menstruate, and this is the most commonly accepted reason why.
Umm well the gross is gone as that was yesterday but my back and hands still hurt from helping my Brother-In-Law clean his house which was scary, reality TV levels of disgusting.
Because I like to start my morning with a leisurely sprint to catch the light rail while shouting obscenities ... that's what I did!
I grabbed a rail to give myself some momentum around and up the platform, but was brutally stymied by a metal light rail sign, which has created a terrible throbbing pain and under-the-nail bruise on my poor pinkie finger. D:
I had a very bizarre dream last night about getting a machine from the local grocery store that would inject caffeine directly into your eyeballs in lieu of a morning coffee.
ashen_key long ago linked me to a totally fascinating book by a man called Leonard Shlain who linked that unpleasant uterine shedding to the entire evolution of human culture, that is, it wouldn't have had to happen if human women didn't menstruate. All culture, religion etc. is just a stopgap measure for that.
That said, I just wish that this historically important stopgap measure hadn't made me so anemic as to contribute largely to my general system failure last autumn. Now, I take a large dose of prescription grade iron supplement every morning and evening to deal with it. As by my last bloodwork, I'm out of the anemic range, but still very low on the scale of what is healthily non-anemic.
Saturday was pretty sweet. I went to my aunt's birthday party and bowled badly and ate some questionable nachos. Then I stayed up until seven in the morning and slept until four PM on Sunday. By the time Sunday evening proper rolled around, I felt like complete crap, due to a combination of cramps and mild food poisoning, so I went back to bed at like eight o'clock and slept until 2 AM.
So now my sleep schedule is screwed up and I am also a member of the Menstrual Brigade. Yaaaay. I feel much better in general, though.
Nothing uncomfortable on this front; just waiting for my psych to get the report from the analyst so I know which meds are getting tweeked/removed/added now that I know what's going on upstairs [ADD + autism added to the current list of What Do I Have].
'Bout another week or so to my next visit where I'm sure I'll be told.
