ashen_key long ago linked me to a totally fascinating book by a man called Leonard Shlain who linked that unpleasant uterine shedding to the entire evolution of human culture, that is, it wouldn't have had to happen if human women didn't menstruate. All culture, religion etc. is just a stopgap measure for that.
That said, I just wish that this historically important stopgap measure hadn't made me so anemic as to contribute largely to my general system failure last autumn. Now, I take a large dose of prescription grade iron supplement every morning and evening to deal with it. As by my last bloodwork, I'm out of the anemic range, but still very low on the scale of what is healthily non-anemic.
