Well, you guys certainly did what I told you to, re: inbox explosions. \o/

Today I thought we'd do "Five random things in your headcanon about your characters that haven't necessarily come to light in game as yet". Check out my example for Sallie below!

Guy ([personal profile] landlesslord):

1. He had an older brother (Hugo) and two older sisters (Alys and Eleanor). Thanks to Hoodie actually addressing Guy's early life there was a bit of hasty headcanon rewriting, but suffice it to say, Hugo's dead and Alys and Eleanor got packed off to a convent.
2. He has a fear of water (stolen from Richard Armitage's own unease with water).
3. Despite being the right hand of Evil in Nottingham, he's not actually that fond of killing people. He can psych himself up to think it's necessary - though this doesn't work when he's faced with killing children.
4. On the children front, yes, he abandoned his son Seth in the forest to die. He rationalised that one with the idea that he could never provide Seth with a good life and that once he was married to Marian and they had children of their own, Seth would undoubtedly be a threat to the inheritance of his legitimate sons. He hoped to avoid the future conflict.
5. Guy spent the time after leaving England and before going into the Sheriff's service as a postulant with the Hospitallers in France. As a result, he takes his faith a lot more seriously than might be expected.

I'm not gonna do the headcanon thing for Ray because he's been around for so long that I've already brought out most of the headcanon I constructed for him.

1. Gordon's favorite firearms are the Combine pulse rifle and the twelve-gauge shotgun, largely because they present the highest chance, to his way of thinking, of being absolutely sure that whatever it is will get dead and stay dead very quickly.

2. Gordon still spends more time awake in bed than asleep, but at this point it's more due to habit than dread of the nightmares (which he has on a regular basis), and what sleep he does get is better when Alyx is there with him.

3. The crowbar comes with him everywhere. Everywhere. Yes, he literally sleeps with it under his pillow; he's careful to arrange it so that it doesn't disturb Alyx. Yes, it gets leaned against the sink when he goes to use the toilet or against the wall when he's otherwise using the men's room. Yes, it comes with him into the shower. Not outside the shower stall, into the shower. Just in case.

4. For all that he's a silent protagonist in canon and a relatively quiet man in Millicanon, Gordon is not actually afraid of public speaking. He doesn't like to do it, but that's just because he doesn't like to talk, period. As long as he has a little time to prepare a proper speech, he's just fine with addressing a crowd. He probably won't talk to anybody afterwards for hours if he can avoid it, though.

5. Whenever Gordon has down time, he spends nine tenths of it studying. It's the same drive that he had after Black Mesa, but before City 17; he's aware that he's got a massive responsibility coming and he wants to be ready for it. The subject material is about evenly divided between history, military theory and strategy, and political science, because he knows that he's not going to get a chance to take things easy when the Combine War is over. He doesn't really expect to ever be able to get back to physics, so he might as well be good at what he is going to have to do.
vivien: Ingress giggling (hee hee hee)

[personal profile] vivien 2012-03-21 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ingress:
1. Accidentally killed a frog once by opening its skin. It wasn't on purpose, and she was only six. It was very scary and sad for her.
2. Doesn't miss London Below all that much now that she's in school in Haven.
3. Keeps Charlie Pace remains as her subconscious imprint of a perfect guy. She might never realize this since she knew him when she was so little.
4. Is intrigued by the idea of being an assassin like Havelock (but would never admit it)
5. Is strong enough to open a door to the bar all by herself, which I will have her do sooooooon.

I think I have hit the love meme wall two pages in, as per usual. I will make a second pass later today. If I did not get to you, constant readers, please take my love as assumed for now. I have not stuck around for seven years for nothing.

Whenever I come up with these kinds of things, I wind up using them. I would give examples if I could remember how to... words.
innerbrat: (Leonardo)

[personal profile] innerbrat 2012-03-21 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Mac:

1. The reason he doesn't tell people the truth about his background is partly because he doesn't trust easily, but as much to do him being worried that people won't like him if they knew.

2. Most of his loyal band of street urchins he met individually when saving them from bullies/police/the elements. That they are useful as a tiny army is a relatively recent occurrence.

3. He wants to be rich; really really wants it.

4. In the future, he will manipulate his own legacy. He will shave a decade off his own life and allow people to paint him as white in order to maximize his own influence.

5. He's younger than Leonardo, but has lied about his age to Leo, to make himself seem older.
sdelmonte: (Default)

[personal profile] sdelmonte 2012-03-21 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Howard Stark:

1. Feels a little guilty that he's not in uniform while his peers are on the front lines.

2. Was born and raised outside Detroit, son of a Ford Motor Company executive (something I established in Mixed Muses).

3. A huge baseball fan, especially of the Tigers. (Would love to have an icon of him looking like Magnum in the Tigers cap.)

4. Sometimes wishes he'd pursued a career in pure science.

5. Hates living in Los Angeles, but knows the future of aviation is where they can build big factories and big runways.

Knox:

1. More adept with new tech than he expected to be. (He's in 1995 now, and that means e-mail and the Internet are arriving.)

2. Turned 40 last year. Didn't tell anyone in the Bar but Rapunzel.

3. Years after getting all that money from Rachel Grey, he barely remembers it's there. He's not sure it's real.

4. Struggling to find a way to report on the super-heroes as they form teams and as the government starts to utilize super-agents. He has no way into that world, and it stings.

5. Is working on a book about Batman in his spare time.

[personal profile] camwyn 2012-03-21 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I've already laid this out in a few places, but- Adrian actually has a fairly straight spectrum of cussing. His baseline everyday speech is chock full of things you're not allowed to say on primetime television without paying a fine, but that's just reflexive, to him. He doesn't actually mean any of it, nine tenths of the time- he doesn't even think about it. The angrier or more impassioned he gets, the more he really means it, the less his cussing makes sense. He generally goes from normal everyday use of cuss words to a disjointed style of cursing similar to what you see in Questionable Content when he gets mad. Then he starts adding the foreign curse words when he gets madder. If he gets really angry, the foreign cuss words from several languages are used interchangeably and he'll shift from English to Dutch to Spanish to English to Quebecois and so on. Most of the time that's as far as he goes, but at the far end of the anger/language spectrum he stops talking at all, and then wraps completely around the cussing and comes out the other side. If he comes out quoting John Milton, everything around him is going to die very soon. If he comes out speaking very politely and calling someone 'friend', that specific person should consider moving to a more secure position immediately. For example, the Moon.

2. His mother had more of an influence on him than his father did, which is at least partly reflected in the fact that he cusses less around women and uses very few gender-based cuss words; it doesn't seem right nor fair to him and he's subconsciously convinced that if he ever does so, word of it will get back to his mother somehow and she'll drag him by the ear to work in the beehives with her again. This is also why he does not use foul language in written communication and almost never uses it in Trollian conversations. A record of that kind of thing should not exist just in case it ever winds up in the box that gets delivered to his parents when he's declared dead.

3. There are three things in the world he is afraid of, four if you count making his momma mad: flying, the winged monkeys from the Wizard of Oz, and clowns. Everything else gets an annoyed look or an 'aw hell naw' or something of that nature.

4. A long time ago, he had a thread with the Absinthe Fairy in which he managed to catch what amounted to the Salmon of Wisdom; however, circumstances being what they were, the only wisdom he got out of the deal was all stuff to do with war rather than poetry or magic or wisdom in general. If a pose from him includes biting his thumb or chewing on his thumbnail, this is why. He's accessing that information.

5. His room at Milliways is almost completely filled with notebooks. Seriously, he's got his bunk and a patch on the floor about big enough for pushups and the rest of the space is notebooks. A fair number of them contain nothing but names, dates, and places- the names and dates and places all the dead Marines who visited him on his first Halloween in Bar were killed. The others are because he's all too aware that when people die, they take everything they know with them. When he has down time in his schedule, which isn't often, he grabs a notebook and a pen from the Bar, bites his thumb, and writes down absolutely everything the fish wisdom brings to mind. He's got a standing request with the Bar to turn over his room key to Alyx or Gordon if anything happens to him, so that the notebooks see some use.

Wow. I feel like Mia's practically an open book now since this is kind of tough. Some of this will be more obscure canon bits.

1. In Lunar: The Silver Star, there is a healing item that will bring party members back to full health. However, they must be pure of heart for this to be effective. The only party members who can be healed with this item are Alex and Mia.

2. Mia is one of the few people who had potential connections to all Four Heroes before the events of TSS. She's Lemia's daughter, was effectively raised by Ghaleon, friends with Mel and his family, and Japanese parts of canon imply she might be Dyne's biological daughter. I'm still not going to give a definite answer on this last one but I swing more towards Ghaleon due to Mia's appearance.

3. There is an ancient magic language on Lunar and Mia can read bits and pieces of it. She will probably learn more at some point in time.

4. Out of all of the places she's traveled on Lunar, Mia likes Iluk, the village of strange inventors, best of all. She would love to visit again but hasn't really had a good reason.

5. Due to moving to Meribia, Ramus has become a good friend to Mia. Their families will remain close friends for the next 1000 years, to the point that Ramus the 17th or 18th or whatever will actively try to woo Lemina.

I shall do the others later! ETA: The others!

For Lucas:

1. Kind of has a sort of crush on Luna Lovegood maybe. He should go talk to her again. But he's not used to talking to girls (besides Kumatora), so it's the innocent one-sided wanna hold your hand thing he's got going on.

2. Hasn't been explored in much depth but he can understand animals. This is a result of his long time latent and recently awakened PSI. He gave poor Dug quite a shock when he could understand him without the collar.

3. In spite of the above, he has no trouble eating animals. But he won't eat lamb or mutton. He couldn't imagine having to butcher his sheep.

4. Lucas is not religious. It's not a matter of not knowing or not caring so much as it is there's so much to do in the world that he doesn't have a break to go to the nearby temple.

5. Is getting more and more interested in botany thanks to his gardening job at Milliways.

For Shinigami:

1. I've seen some fans speculate on this and I'm gonna say Shinigami prooooooooobably doesn't look like Death the Kid under that mask.

2. Kind of wants to take the Death City Mech for a spin out on the grounds. Fortunately, he's mindful of the havoc such an act would cause and restrains himself.

3. If it's a reflective glass surface and you can write his number on it, Shinigami can talk to you. This is confirmed with mirrors and windows, so I'm going with it being true for other similar surfaces. And now I can't stop looking at my TV...

4. Knows how to play that mandolin he keeps around to tease BJ. When you live in one place for 800 years and your job is being the grim reaper, you sometimes pick up hobbies.

5. ............yeah, that's all I got.

I'mma gonna answer this one for Rabastan, since I can't think of five things for the others. :(

1: Speaks both French and English, though possibly not as fluent in French as he used to be, due to lack of practise. French was taught to both Rabastan and Rodolphus by his father.

2: Rabastan's parents never really recovered from the shock of Rabastan being sent to Azkaban. His father nearly disowned him, and his mother died due the health issues this brought on sometime during his incarceration. Rodolphus they expected. Rabastan they did not.

3: Rabastan never married [he did visit brothels from time to time], due to the shame of being a Death Eater. [Related to this, I believe Rabastan may in fact be asexual, despite his brothel visits.]

4: Bellatrix terrifies him, which is saying something given Rodolphus is his brother.

5: I've considered the idea of Rabastan adopting a child. I may yet do this. Hopefully in the near future.

Ben Wade ([personal profile] almosthonorable):

1. Shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.
1. Took up juggling at age 12 to develop those fast hands of his.
2. He set foot on a boat for the first time in San Francisco; once they left the dock, he turned pea-green and projectile vomited off the side. To say that Ben does not have sea legs is putting it kindly.
3. He dreams of Vlad Dracula -- of teeth and blood and gore -- much more often than he remembers.
4. His mother's name was Geneva.
5. When he wakes, he checks his immediate vicinity for Fira. Always.

Kate Warner ([personal profile] justdidntseeit):

1. Though she knows she shouldn't, Kate wonders quite a bit about the man she shot and killed in self-defense -- who he was, if he left behind a family.
2. Canonically, Kate's mother died in London, while Kate was 22 and just starting her grad program at Stanford. Those are all the details we get! So, furthering that: Kate's mom suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst, and died from complications in the hospital.
3. In Wheelsy, Kate wakes in the middle of the night on a regular basis. She'll slide out of bed, careful not to wake Bill, in the guise of getting a glass of water; she's actually checking all the locks and windows. (Bill's getting shot has left her with quite a bit of unresolved/suppressed anxiety.)
4. The word moist does not bother Kate like it bothers a lot of people. She just thinks of it in a baking context.
5. Kate could do long division before she could tie her shoes.

Raylan Givens ([personal profile] itwasjustified):

1. Aunt Helen rescued him from an hour of hand-shaking and condolences during his mom's visitation. They got in her Fairlane, and left the funeral home behind in the name of vanilla ice cream.
2. Early Times turns his stomach. It was Arlo's bourbon of choice when Raylan was a kid.
3. Raylan hung his hopes of getting out of Harlan on a baseball scholarship to the University of Louisville. When that didn't pan out, he dug coal.
4. When Raylan was a junior in high school, he was asked to prom by Jolene Shelton, who was a senior. She was also the daughter of Raylan's baseball coach.
5. When chasing a fugitive, Raylan sometimes has the theme from Gunsmoke stuck in his head.

Screw it, I can only think of four. If I come up with a fifth, I'll add it later.

1. Due to association with his girlfriend, Enzo is aroused by the taste of raspberries and the smell of ozone. He sometimes loses focus during energy weapons practice, due to the smell. He's working on it, though.

2. It's more that this hasn't been mentioned in a long time, but he still practices meditation occasionally. He's not very good at clearing his mind, but it's still calming.

3. Likewise sort of came up but years ago: He doesn't have a lot of occasion to dance, but when he does, he's very good at it. Guardians often tend to be. The martial arts training transfers.

4. He wouldn't act so embarrassed when people tease him about marrying Dani if he weren't so worried about it not working out. He's absolutely certain of their relationship; the problem is the logistics of settling down together. They both have duties to their own worlds, after all. He avoids talking about this for fear of jinxing things.

5. PROFIT!!!
camwyn: (Ron the Narrator)

[personal profile] camwyn 2012-03-21 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Ellen has no idea what her mother looks like. Mom died within minutes of giving birth, and Dad wasn't allowed to take any pictures or other documentation from the outside world into Vault 101- and everyone who has met them both says Ellen strongly resembles her father. The Enclave destroyed any traces of the Project Purity scientists' personal possessions when they briefly held the Jefferson Memorial, too. So she has no clue what Mom looked like.

2. She once promised Bill Guarnere that she'd do her best to order 'real food' in Milliways, because it depressed him to think that he was fighting for a future where people voluntarily ate Cram and the like. She tends to feel guilty for ordering anything else but sometimes does it anyway, because it's what she grew up with.

3. She harbors a great deal of resentment towards her father, which she is trying to put aside and not really doing all that well with. She vastly prefers Milliways father figures, frankly.

4. If she had any clue that such a thing existed or that the words were even in the language, she would identify as asexual. However, she was raised to believe that you were supposed to marry and have two to three children to make sure the next generation existed, and by damn, she plans to do that- one way or another.

5. She's afraid of horses. Brahmin she's okay with, but horses look wrong and move wrong and just generally freak her out.

Fluttershy:
1. HAS FAMILY SOMEWHERE, I SWEAR. (Hasbro doesn't believe me.)
2. Not only would like to be a tree, but has a particular type of tree she'd like to be and a spot picked out where she'd prefer to grow.
3. Is fairly impressionable. For instance, she had no problem with the Great and Powerful Trixie... until Rarity began dissing her. (Trixie's response to the taunts didn't help much, but it was Rarity's opinion, followed by Applejack's, that made the difference.)
4. Has considered writing letters to Princess Luna, as well. When she's not showing up unexpected and big and dark and loud on the scariest night of the year, Fluttershy does kinda feel sorry for her. But so far nothing's come of this thought.
5. Likes pears, but doesn't get them very often. (There is no Apple mafia.)

I feel like I must be the narrative equivalent of a blabbermouth with my pups, because I'm having a hard time thinking of five head-canony things for any one of mine that I haven't made reference to.

Can I mix and match?

Luna Lovegood
1. She and her dad are actually quite well off, financially. There are just the two of them, after all, and they don't exactly live an ostentatious lifestyle. (Luna shops for thrift stuff because it's more interesting.) But because you can't trust the banks, all their gold is hidden away in their house.
2. Thanks to a family friend who is a Squib, and an abbhorrence of the mainstream, Luna is pretty well acquainted with the Muggle world. She likes to go into the Muggle village, and her Squib friend/surrogate big brother, Archie, takes her to Muggle movies regularly.

Parker Lee
3. Is a big fan of Criminal Minds, and a fantasy weekend would involve silk sheets, handcuffs, and Shemar Moore.

Mary Bennet
4. Lizzie is her least favorite sister for one specific reason. Mary wants to the the smart blue-stocking of the family. Lizzie is the competition, and Mary knows that cleverness comes much more easily to Lizzie than it does to her.

Dumbledore
5. There is the wizarding equivalent of a stash of weed somewhere in that man's office. (Hey, his job is stressful, okay?)

[personal profile] no_vampires_plz 2012-03-21 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of this is general worldbuilding rather than character-specific headcanon, I hope that's okay?

1. Twilight has barely spoken to her parents since getting into magic school. She suspects they're actually scared of her now. (Getting turned into houseplants by accident will do that.)

2. She receives a small salary from the city of Ponyville as the town's acting librarian. Most of it goes toward keeping Spike fed.

3. Sea ponies do exist in Equestria, they just don't interact with the other subspecies of pony very often. And you'll certainly never see one in a landlocked area like Ponyville.

4. Doctor Whooves is a long-running comic book series about a time-travelling pony from the lost planet of Gallopfrey. Twilight has every single issue in locked longboxes under her bed.

5. Twilight says in canon that magic takes study and practice, but that's only partly true. Most unicorns have a few unique spells they can perform intuitively, and never bother to learn any others. Part of Twilight's special talent is that she's very good at figuring out how to copy other unicorns' magic simply from observation, but it still takes a lot of practice for her to do that magic well. And, much to her chagrin, that ability doesn't transfer well to the non-unicorn magic she's encountered in Milliways.

Emmett Cullen

1. Has a southern accent. (he grew up in Tennessee I think he sounds like it.)

2. Sometimes despite his cavalier attitude does have regrets about the two women he killed.

3. He didn't figure he would live to be 30. (he had a hard live style and a hard job with lots of accidents) Even if he wasn't sure how his family would make it with out him.

4. I think he and Rose fight. he gets tired of her crap and she gets tired of his easy going nature. And he gets hurt by her wanting to be human because if she was human that means they never would have met. (And it's an excuse for make-up sex)

5. Only hates going back to high school because he can't play football. If they let him play he would love it.

I'm not sure if I can manage five for all of mine but I'll start off and see how I do.

Will's have been covered in a few of these before.
1-Whenever he sees a woman in Bar wearing purple, he looks over hoping it's Kate Bishop.
2-He hates guns. He knows how to use them but the injury he took in the Amberverse twinges more than some of his others. Only the scars on his back are worse in terms of connected memories/nightmares.

Demeter
1-In the combined orchard of Demeter and Kore, you can find most plants if you just keep looking.
2-This wasn't created by me but I love it. Apparently if couples come to Demeter and Kore's house, stuff happens. Dem does encourage them but it seems to be not just her.
3-She has never been married and has no desire to be.

William
1-His brother has always been his closest friend.
2-He has trouble making friends at school, because he worries about what's not being said. This didn't used to be as bad when he was younger but with the War and Mark being sick, it got worse.
3-Reading has always been how he escaped and Milliways has shown him the truth of some of what he reads which is one of the things he finds tricky to deal with.
4-He worries that his friends at Milliways at some point are going to realize that he's not as interesting or educated or nice as them and ignore him. He worries about this the most for all the Wizarding pups his age as they seem like they belong in the stories he reads about boarding schools.

Jane Austen
1-Jane's favorite place to write is near a window as she loves being able to see the world.
2-Her best time to write is in the early hours of the morning as the world is quiet and she get lost in her own world.

Moist von Lipwig
1-He misses the quiet of Uberwald sometimes because when he was younger he could identify every sound he heard out his window.
2-He change his persona without changing any piece of clothing but he finds having that identifying prop works better for not getting caught.
3-One reason he doesn't like violence is bodies get traced and it costs a lot of money to get blood out of clothing.

Charles Xavier Warning here is I keep writing long fic about him, so much headcanon.
1-One of Charles' parents is British and a lot of the servants he grew up with were British too. This explains his accent.
2-He's constantly experimenting and shifting his mental shields to test what works best.
3-Dreams terrify Charles because they're so illogical and he never talks about them. His strongest shields go up when he sleeps to keep him from getting pulled into other people's dreams.
4-He considers Raven his sister even though she kept her own last name.

Sameth
1-He still worries about not getting things right as Wallmaker.
2-When he's working with the Charter, the world seems to fall into place.
3-Even though he knows things need to be tested, he shares with his mother a strong trust in his own instinct and when things just feel right.

Tumnus
1-He's in the process of writing a history of Narnia as a way to honor his father and all of those who feel fighting the White Witch.
2-The first frost of winter still sends shivers through him just as Spring is his favorite season.

I don't have any for the Pirate King.
bjornwilde: (Thing: Poker)

[personal profile] bjornwilde 2012-03-21 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Ben Grimm:
1-Total foodie. He's big on food within the comics but they only allude to his being a good chief once in a while.

2-He's smart. Even in canon people forget this. He's been hanging out with Reed and translating his technobabel for years and you have to have some smarts to understand Reed. It's also been mentioned he has several advanced degrees. Of course they never say what those degrees are.

3-He learned to start living and using his body because of Alicia. Before her all he saw was a monster and so didn't try to figure out how to open a door without breaking it or anything we take for granted. She taught him to feel things tactilely (if this isn't a word it is now) again. No small feat.

4-He always seems to have a quick temper but actually he doesn't. He's quick to fights and get riled up but to truly lose his temper takes a lot.

5-He doesn't curse. It takes a lot for him to use bad words though he uses lots of made up ones; dad blamed, dang it, cripes and the like.

Oh, I hate having to use the adverb forms of adjectives ending in an L-sound. So very, very awkward.

1. Kara has two childhood memories of vacationing on a Caprican beach. One time was with both of her parents, but the second trip was with just her father. It's one of the latest memories she has of him before he walked out on them.

2. Her mom once signed her up to be a girl scout. It all went sour fast because she kept skipping out on meetings with a friend.

3. Her friendship with Helo goes as far back as fleet academy. They fooled around some in the early days but really found their comfort zone in being each other's ultimate wing man, no pilot pun intended.

4. She went on a serious bender after her fiance Zak's death two years ago.

5. Kara's a sucker for oysters on the half shell.

Tyler

1. He's actually very intelligent for his age, which is one part having spent so much time in Milliways, and another part of having had so much thrown at him in his world in a very short span of time.

2. If it weren't for the facts that his social studies teacher really doesn't like him, and that his homework gets destroyed and re-written up to five times in a day, Tyler would actually be getting A's all around for his regular classes above PS238.

3. Lately, he's been unable to endure long periods of quiet. It starts to get him more than a little worried and nervous when it's all quiet.

4. He misses Winston more than he really thought he would. For being a cat-sized mouthful of cybernetic angry teeth, the little cyber-raptor is probably the best 'dog' ever. Even if he isn't good for hugging.

5. Tyler doesn't know how far he could go with what he's got, for now, he's always thinking of himself as being the 'runt' of the family.

Bonus: 6. It hasn't come up yet, but on the event that someone decides to taunt him by calling him a powerless little weakling... ...someone's going to be hurt, very, very badly.

Tavi and Tyler should talk. Really they should. They've got so much in common.

(Also Tyler is so cute. I need to actually read PS238 again.)

Oooo, me gusta. Lemme jump in here...

Voodoo:

1. His dad went to West Point, did two tours in Vietnam, won a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts, and ended up staying in the Army for about a decade. Cue the Army-Navy rivalry to end all rivalries when his oldest son went Navy.

2. He doesn't know it yet (won't for about two decades in-game), but he has a daughter named Riley. She's the product of an engagement that didn't work out, and her mom died in a car crash a couple years after she was born. For lack of information, he assumed Riley was in the car with her.

3. He has two tattoos, both kanji chains - the one on his chest says "Hard Fighting Sailor", and the one on his back says "Kiss My Ass". He was very much precanon when he got the latter.

4. It violates every operational security procedure known to man, but he keeps a picture of his ex-fiancee in his front right chest pocket, right above his SAPI plates and magazine pouches.

5. His dad is buried in Arlington. He doesn't go there as much as he'd like.

And, because I'm feeling generous, three more:

6. When he was leaving for Somalia, his dad gave him a silver dollar/good luck charm that'd taken two AK ricochets for him in Vietnam. While he was carrying it, his team leader got killed and he got grazed on the nose by a militiaman. He gave it back to his dad after he got home, and dear old dad was buried with it. He's been a disbeliever in luck ever since.

7. His mother went missing when he was five. One night she was home, the next morning she was gone. It's still on the Boston PD's list of cold cases.

8. He's the second oldest of six children. His sister Colleen is the eldest, and he has two younger brothers and two younger sisters. He hasn't talked to them for a couple years, and as far as they know, he's still Navy. Beyond that, they really don't know.

John'll get his turn once I have a chance to think over his world and character.

One for each of my currents:

1. Cata had three children while she was whitewashed. The youngest of them will eventually follow her into the Guild, partly because she's Looking For Answers re: why her mother ditched the family. I think once that little awkward moment is over, they'll actually get on quite splendidly. (I have occasionally sandboxed Rosa, but on the in-game timeline she's... five or so right now.)

2. Sam hates politics. he finds the well-reasoned debates about the issues at hand booooooring, and it didn't help that Mizzamir's influence meant no one wanted to kill the opposition and liven things up. However, those well-reasoned debates were part of Mizzamir's influence; he should find things more interesting when Bistort sees its first proper nasty mudslinging campaign.

3. Despite the show's fondness of only tossing guys at her, I'm pretty sure Claudia is bi, or at least more interested in whether she can have an intelligent conversation with someone than what bits they have. The intelligent-conversation bit is why, of the couple things that have happened onscreen, the most genuine to me is Fargo.

4. Apollo has a major, major soft spot for Geoff Chaucer's mum, even after all these centuries. She was a hilarious lady, and he hadn't been planning on knocking her up, but good things for the English language happened as a result. (Next Conversations With Dead People, I might see if I can wrangle her long enough to write a little something.)

5. Imp is possibly the only sentient being on the Disc who actually likes to eat dwarf bread. In canon, he maintains that it's nice and crunchy; my headcanon reasoning for this is that most food in Llamedos is soup, soup and more soup, and if you soak the dwarf bread long enough it reaches a similar texture to very stale toast. It's a little bit different from ALL OF THE SOUP.

1. When Alyx was fourteen, she befriended an older boy named Jamie Donnelly. Jamie was profoundly deaf; they communicated by writing notes to each other, and he taught her a bit of sign language. Jamie was killed by a Combine sniper four months later. Alyx considers Jamie to be her first love, although she didn't think of their relationship in those terms until long after the fact.

2. When she was very young, Alyx wanted to work for NASA. Not as an astronaut--she wanted to make autonomous robot probes like Spirit and Opportunity.

3. She hasn't really articulated it yet, but once the war's over she's going to be making an effort to organize a citizen militia, making sure everyone can defend themselves. Mostly because she knows Shephard wants to recreate the Marine Corps and while she trusts him, she doesn't trust the organization not to make another Black Mesa debacle happen somewhere down the line, and if it does, she wants the public to be able to fight back.

4. She's spent some of her downtime training D0G how to handle infants safely, just in case an emergency happens and there's no one else available to protect the twins.

5. She has a couple of numb spots on her ribcage due to nerve damage from the Hunter impaling her in Episode 2.

Some of this is ending up in Millifics - I'm trying to do the 42 minifics thing from waaaaayback, it helps settle her in my head as a logicalish sort of creature. :D

1. Katya had the Worlds Biggest Crush on Freddy Mercury. It's that voice, that gorgeous golden voice. If she could have convinced Boris Ivanovich to let her go to England during those years, she would have totally been a groupie.

2. Katya's house and it's ridiculous amount of warding and defense (it's enough that some of the more paranoid members of the watch comment on how paranoid she's being) come from when a fairly reliable, if Dark, Other commented on how she was going to be betrayed and killed. Of course that stupid Other was then killed during the Allied bombing of Germany, so she never got details. Thus, the best warded house in Russia.

3. Katya very, very much wanted to shape-shift into a dog. Or a wolf. Something dog-like. She really really likes dogs, and she thought it'd be the Best Thing Ever if she could have a dog and then be a dog and run with it. (She was ten, give her a break) Her first successful shift was into a tiger - a dog-sized tiger. Seymon saw. Thus, 'Tiger Cub' stuck permanently, no matter how lethal she became.

It's possible there's still pictures of this event still in existence.

4. Katya was first driven into the gloom during the riots just before Communism took hold in Russia - that's been said before. What hasn't been said is she and her nanny were at the zoo at the time (to see the tigers) - what drove her to retreat in to the gloom was when a very opportunistic werewolf made use of the chaos and decided to have himself a snack. She got away because the first people she ran into when stepping into the gloom were Seymon and Ilya, and she was Light because the first words out of her mouth took the form of a somewhat imperious demand that the pair of Night Watchmen go and Help Her Nanna Right Now. They were a bit late for that, but in plenty of time to scoop up Katya and trundle her off to Boris Ivanovich.

5. She tried LSD all of once. (Teenaged rebellion happens to Others too) Bad trips when one can already see rainbow auras around humans really, really aren't a joke.
