Henry jumps back a little from that falling piece--his book is far too precious to him to risk that damage--and then peers up.

After another moment he looks back down at the object, then up at her. "I guess I could try."

After carefully setting down his book--making sure it's closed, so the pages don't get damaged--he tosses the part back up to her. His aim is inexpert at best, though.

She tries to lean out and catch it, but the top of the casing's arc is juuuust too low for her to get it withoug falling herself, and Claudia's not too keen on falling out of the rafters.
"Well, it was worth a shot," she says, with a wry smile. "Thanks for trying. I'll get it when I come down."
And then she actually gets a good look at the kid - and the book, for that matter. "You new?"

"I could try again," he offers, "And throw harder."

He's all of ten--this is probably a recipe for disaster.

And then he nods, picking his book back up and slinging his backpack to the front. As he stuffs the book inside, he explains, "I was heading out to go see... someone," because admitting you're visiting a psychiatrist even if he's really Jiminey Cricket isn't really fun, "but... the door messed up. Is it magic?"
claudiometer: eyeing a door (those pesky doors)

Well, if the psychiatrist thing comes up, Claudia certainly won't hold it against him.
"Nah, that's okay, lemme--" Her departure from the rafters is far from graceful, but fortunately, the table she lands on is pretty sturdy.
"Anyway," she says, once she's back on solid ground. "I don't know if the door itself qualifies as magic, but I wouldn't be surprised - I understand it likes to sneak up on people. Welcome to Milliways."

He'll avoid it, mostly.

The drop makes him grin a little anyway--that's just kinda cool. Sorta something Emma would do.

"Milliways? That's a cool name." He looks around. "But what do I tell someone when I get home and I've been missing for... however long?"

"Time'll stop on the other side of the door. You should be fine in that regard. --But you should make sure you can still see the door. It likes to disappear sometimes, real pain when it does."
Even if it's only happened to her twice.

"Disappear?" He looks suitably alarmed, turning to watch the Door with intensity.

He will not let it disappear. Or something. "What happens when it does?"

"Then... you're stuck in an interdimensional space. Which, this is the swankiest one I've ever been in, of the two, but it's still annoying. The door'll come back eventually."

"You've been in another?" That just sounds interesting.

And it may hold a clue about the spell!

"It wasn't anywhere near as impressive as it sounds," Claudia says. "My brother managed to teleport himself into limbo when I was - about your age, actually. To bust him back out, we had to follow him in. Once I knew he was there to rescue and didn't think I was crazypants for wanting to try, anyway."
That part... took a while.

[personal profile] operates_cobra 2012-04-03 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds very impressive, as far as Henry's concerned--but he's still not entirely clear on it.

"What's limbo? What's it like?"
claudiometer: current!Claud with Joshua (modern family)

[personal profile] claudiometer 2012-04-03 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Limbo is... well, shorter to say than 'interdimensional space,' for one thing. He was doing teleportation research for his master's thesis, and - you could argue that it worked, but he missed the instructions for getting out of the space he got into again. Wasn't much to see - I'd wonder how he was still save afterward except I don't know how aware he was that time was passing. He was fourteen years older than me when he got stuck and now he's two years older than me."
She's just counting her blessings that she got him out before she was the older sibling. It's been weird enough as it is.

[personal profile] operates_cobra 2012-04-03 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Teleportation?" His expression brightens considerably. That just sounds cool--Henry's a fan of comics.

Still, he looks a little confused. "But how did he not notice time was passing? People get older. Or... was time not moving for him and moving for you, like with this place?"

"More the latter, I think. It's not really something we talk about much." She was glad to have him back, and then they went right to fighting about how much time surfing the Internet to play catch-up was too much, and now they're pretty much back to normal sibling stuff and complaining about their respective jobs.
"I'm Claudia, by the way."

"Oh. So it was like this place too, with the way time moves? But it wasn't this place?"

This is just getting really interesting--especially considering what Storybrooke is like. All kinds of possibilities...

"Henry."
claudiometer: saluting (at your service)

[personal profile] claudiometer 2012-04-04 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good to meetcha. No, it wasn't here - Milliways is a lot more interesting."
And then she raises an eyebrow. "You know a blonde lady named Emma?"
operates_cobra: (Listening)

[personal profile] operates_cobra 2012-04-05 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
He blinks several times.

"Yes--but there's probably more than one blonde lady named Emma. Is she from Storybrooke?"
claudiometer: looking up from a case file (o rly?)

[personal profile] claudiometer 2012-04-05 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Claudia nods. "She is."
(There may be more than one blonde lady named Emma, but Claudia really doubts there are that many ten-year-olds named Henry from that approximate time bracket. About as many people her age who share her name, probably.)
"She mentioned you think the place is cursed, and I gotta say, color me intrigued."
