As I keep settling into my job, I find myself running up against unexpected expectations, some weird things and some nice things. Such as one of my bosses wondering why I should want a phone in the library and I don't know how to properly explain, because the library is my office. As that feels obvious to me, all the libraries I've ever worked at, there's a phone at the reference/circ desk since you want to be available. Also I won't be around to respond from about noon to 2 EST due to meetings, so talk among yourselves then.
It made me headtilt a bit and then prompted this DE of what expectations do people have about your pups? Then what expectations do they have for themselves?
As an example of this, William is incredibly hard on himself as he's set this standard of taking care of his family and what that means. On the other hand, people's expectations for him at least in his canon aren't that high, they are in Milliways but in his world, not that much is expected. There are exceptions to that but mainly, people don't think a lot of what his family or he can do.

... yeah.
Adrian doesn't know what other people expect of him any more and doesn't really give a fuck. All he knows is that he wants his country and his service and his world back, and if he can't have his country he'll at least make sure he gets his world back so he can re-establish his service.
The people in Vault 101 never really expected anything much of Ellen, for the most part. The people on the surface, thanks to Three Dog, think she's the coolest thing since canned beans. The Brotherhood of Steel doesn't entirely know what to think of her, and has adopted an unofficial policy of 'throw her at tougher and tougher issues until we find something she can't do, then pull her back to a difficulty grade below that'.
There's more, mostly to do with Arcade I think, but my brain's a little distracted right now.

I hope you can feel a little more together, its almost the weekend.
Some spoilers may follow...
Zoey as far as I can tell, she's very hard on herself and expects the best of herself and her Pokemon. It doesn't appear her parents had any expectations of her, good or bad. Her big sister-figure Candice may have kick started Zoey's expectations and why she's sometimes hard on those who battle in Contests and Gym Battles.

Fry... has little or no expectations placed on him whatsoever, except at certain points when the universe needs saving in somewhat odd ways. (He manages to rise to the occasion.) Nevertheless, canon has shown that people do need him around... only no one's sure why.
Shawn's entire life has basically been spent defying his dad's expectations, for better or worse. They're working on it.

The Ostrogoths expected Teja to smite the enemy completely ruthlessly and with great success, and otherwise found him a bit scary and unlike themselves; Teja expected himself to give everything and never, ever ask anything in return, keeping to the highest moral standards as to be unassailable. His story in Milliways has mostly been the tale of him cautiously venturing beyond these expectations.
Nobody expects much of Antinoos as he's that luxury creature Hadrian keeps for his own entertainment; he's just supposed to be submissive to the emperor. For Antinoos, this lack of possibility to grow into is becoming increasingly unbearable. He expects to grow into all the things Hadrian showed and told him, while still staying with his lover in a more equal sort of relationship; all of it seems increasingly impossible the more closely he looks at his options. It's not a good place to be at.
Poins is expected to continue wasting his life on destructive behaviour, pointless mischief, and drink; some sticky end is likely awaiting him. He, on the other hand, is well aware that the little sordid idyll he's living in is strictly temporary and that he'll need to get his ass in gear and make himself scarce when Hal becomes king because the man won't want to be reminded of his (intentionally) wasted youth -- Poins is the only one even aware of that, the only one Prince Hal talk to about his actual thoughts and plans. And Poins is disillusioned enough to know he's not exempted. I was joking that he probably escaped to Milliways at the end of Henry IVth...

Its one of the things about him that Jane finds annoying, his idea of how he's seen isn't the same as it used to be, so when he goes aren't you scared of me. Her reaction is no, not really because you've told me so often just how scary you are.

Which conflicts very neatly with his slightly obsessive desire to be trusted and relied upon. He really wants people to have expectations of him. He's borderline desperate for it.

As a friend, he is expected to be vaguely dependable. Mostly an asshole, but a dependable asshole. Like, according to the situation, people know he'll either willingly help/give advice/do a favor/etc. or he won't, OR he has to be persuaded/threatened/blackmailed/etc. Also, Tommy knows he's an asshole, but is sometimes surprised (and hurt?) when his friends actually call him out on it.
As a husband and father, ahahaha yeah right. His wife and kids expect him to break every promise he makes, screw up every attempt at putting their family back together, and revert to awful behavior each time he says he'll change his ways. It happens every. single. time. Tommy is aware that he's been a shitty husband and dad, and he does try to make things better sometimes, but ends up failing because he gives up so easily. He knows what's expected of him but it's the one thing he can't do. His job? No problem! His family? HOW DOES IT WORK. (However, he isn't a deadbeat, and he always gives money to his wife and kids, whether it's requested or not, or if he just wants to buy their love. So essentially he knows he's an ATM.)
I'm not sure what Tommy's Milliways friends expect of him, because they're so varied and he presents slightly different sides of himself, depending on the person. Some people might not expect him to share a lot of personal stuff. Others might expect him to be just another flirt on the prowl. Others think he's a nice guy (but only because Tommy genuinely likes them and has no reason to be an ass to them). Though I think it's safe to say that everyone expects him to talk a lot, heh.

Unfortunately, what he expects of himself is basically to single-handedly keep the world saved. I'm planning to address that a bit, come CwDP this year.

In X's millicanon home world, people expect her to be capable, strange, off-putting, and responsible.
In Milliways proper -- I have no idea what people's expectations of her are, either IC or OOC. I think her good friends expect similar things than what she expects of herself. Those things are, I guess, to do her damnedest to protect people, to do her best to stop other people from making people need protection, to listen when people have problems even if she does not understand, and to perform ruthlessly when she decides it is time for her skills to be applied.
Not many people expect her to have a sense of humor, I guess?

Well, Amascut... no one expects anything of her. She has been defeated, she is powerless (relatively), and her pantheon/family is a joke among the gods. She is only a minor goddess, so minor that the edict banning direct godly interference on the mortal plane does not apply to her. Her brother skirts the law sometimes to fix what Amascut has done. She is still a danger and might get into an argument with the other gods over possession of a recently deceased soul, but, she's only a minor goddess, not a threat. Somedays she's frustrated by this attitude, but most she will take advantage of it to take people by surprise.
Evil Chicken can't be expected. He is, or was, a random event/encounter.
Fairy Fixit, though I haven't played her much (and she's pretty much sandbox only) is expected to maintain a complex teleportation network and its failsafe features, as well as cooperate with other teleportation system managers. She is expected to do this regardless of who is presently in power in Zanaris or if there is a coup going on or if someone is experimenting with teleportation a couple of universes away. Or if a node is hooked up to someplace that is going through an Allpocalypse! @_@

Bumi: I like to think people don't expect much from Bumi because of his lack of bending. Also that he's batshit insane.
Splinter: He's expected to know everything, be able to do everything, and have 100% steadfast at all times.
(ha)
Ida: Exceeds your expectations. Always.
I have no idea what people expect of Mike and Raph. I guess I'd leave that up to you guys.

The second person is X, and Elle's interpretation of X's expectations for her pretty much amount to not dying and not being stupid, and Elle has been better at those. (Though Lynne can dispute this, but sometimes I think X is more lax on the Not Being Stupid thing when it comes to Elle than she is with others).
Elle isn't really entirely aware of anyone else's expectations of her - most people in her own world at the moment either don't like her, or like her/are ambivalent toward her but don't always know what to make of her, and I think that holds true in the Bar, too. She has sometimes cared what people think of her, but... a lot of that's Sam and he's a weird exception.
Asami actually has some pretty high expectations to live up to, what with being on track to one day take her father's position as head of Future Industries, but she takes them on with considerable grace, both because that's just how she is, and because she doesn't yet truly understand the magnitude of those expectations and the responsibility that comes with them. And she doesn't yet know that she's going to be taking on that role a lot sooner than she would have expected, and that a lot of her lines of support concerning it will be abruptly cut off in the process.
There are also some expectations - that she know how to communicate with different circles of people, that she maintain a certain level of decorum so that she doesn't embarrass her father or their company - that Asami largely adheres to, but these are also things she willingly wants to do. They don't feel like restrictions on her life because they sort of align with how she's turned out, anyway, or she's just used to it and doesn't really know how she'd be different. But things like her makeup or clothes - that's just something she likes, the same way she likes watching pro-bending or understanding/fiddling with just about any vehicle.
(And she has, on a few occasions, run up against that 'decorum' line with traffic violations, but being rich means you can pay your speeding tickets.)
Manny, due to his job at the Department of Death, is expected to make as many premium sales as possible, though recently (due mostly to factors beyond his control) he's not been to great at this, and his boss is starting to bring the heat. This is pretty much the only expectations that concern him. I sort of imagine in life people didn't expect much from him at all, which is part of what drives his competitive attitude.
Leslie... well, I think from experience, people expect Leslie to be enthusiastic and helpful and bossy and maybe a little annoying. She's pretty much the de facto head of the Parks and Rec department, and I think generally people expect her to take care of the things they don't think of or don't care about, but that are necessary to keep things running.
But even though a lot of people actually have pretty high expectations of Leslie because she so consistently proves capable, or at least willing and enthusiastic, none of them meet the expectations she puts on herself: to be capable, absurdly hardworking, and eventually President of the United States.

Teddy, in stark contrast to Atton, is drowning in expectation. He's remarked before in Milliways that he was always going to become an Auror - that things like wants and experimentation never factored into his life, because the moment he knew what an Auror was, he knew that he'd be one, and pretty quickly so did everyone else. With that kind of conviction also comes a lot of expectation, though, and he applies the same kind of dogmatic, absolute conviction to everything to do with Auroring - he decides he'll do something, and then the automatic, ironclad expectation from himself is that he must succeed.
There's also a fair amount of expectation from others - because he's the son of war heroes; because his mother was such a good Auror, because he's been functionally raised by Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny; and on the negative side, because he's vaguely werewolfy, and people expect a certain amount of instability and danger. There's a reason why, out of all of my pups, Teddy has more self-control than the others by a mile.
Well, that was long.
Leonardo - I almost think doesn't have any expectations of himself, really. Expectation isn't what drives him: If he lost interest in science and art and, well, everything tomorrow he'd just wander off to do something else. He's driven by curiosity and a desire to improve and learn and create.
Others do have expectations of him, and you can see it how a lot of the cast turns to him as their go-to Tech Guy For Any Situation. Which, given that he nearly always lives up to those expectations, is pretty fair.
Leo Fudou has eleven or twelve previous lifetimes of expectations heaped on him, and more. He would have a lot of expectation on him from others just due to being a prodigy, and a lot just from the memory of his very demanding, domineering father - but then you add to that he's the latest iteration in a string of prodigies, each of which has revolutionised the Makai Order.
Seamus expects himself to be a competent second-in-command of the DA - and a competent leader, combatant and strategist in general. That's about the sum of it.

Even though Knox has been a successful reporter for a long while, his colleagues don't expect much of him. He's seen as the class clown of Gotham journalism, an image he does little to change.
Charlie never had to deal with any expectations from parents. His teachers figured he'd flunk out sooner or later, and he did. His co-workers knew he would get the story on the evening news, but never considered him to be any different than any other reporter. And in costume, he was so far off the radar than he only had to answer to himself, and maybe to his mentors.
Gibbs is a rank and file sailor. The only expectation is loyalty. He meets that expectation.
Cyborg tries to fulfill his late mother's wish that he does something good with his life and not be like his dad. He thinks he's doing just that.
And Howard...his father wanted him to follow in his footsteps and be another corporate drone at Ford. His mother wanted him to never stray far from home. His professors at Cal tech thought he should devote himself to research. Everyone wanted him to be something other than who he is now. He ignored them all from the minute he flew with his grandfather for the first time. Oddly enough, his grandfather never pushed him in any direction at all.

Ben's expectations: His place in life has been entirely because he was lucky, he didn't earn it. He has to be the tough one and never break down cause the rest of the team needs him. He's just a kid from Yancy Street who got lucky in life.
The MU's expectations of him: (Typical view from other heroes who don't really know him) He's a big dumb jock but still a nice guy. (Typical civilian) He's a monster we don't want around unless there's an emergency, then we really want him around. (Restaurant owner)Never have a buffet if he's around. (Fellow team mates) Irreplaceable.
Thalia:
Other campers: She's a powerful hero you don't want to be too friendly with as she temperamental. She's legendary.
Herself: She has to watch out for all half-bloods since her father messed things up so badly.

I think ...
Puck tends to think people expect him to be an idiot, and Aphrodite expects that people will find her silly.
Ava expects people to think she's a harmless little girl.
And they all tend to shamelessly use this to their own advantage whenever they can! But as for what people ACTUALLY expect, I don't know.

Sadly, he does not live up to this expectation.

Sam's world, at this point, expects him to be nothing more nor less than himself (which is good, because that's what he expects too).
Claudia expects her world to throw her curveballs on a regular basis, but hell, that's part of why she stuck with the job. XD She's slowly stopped expecting everyone to abandon her (it was a thing for a while). For some reason, Artie still doesn't expect her to repair/upgrade whatever bit of Warehouse tech she can get her hands on. Silly of him, really.
Artemis expects Apollo to be her annoying (slightly) younger brother, which he lives up to tremendously. People in his world expect the ego (and the bad poetry, and the temper). He expects himself to be awesome. He finds he lives up to that with no problems.
What Imp expects of himself is not unlike what the music wanted from him, but with 100% less 'you will die for your art.'
Red isn't sure what to expect from herself, right now; it helps that all Snow wants is a friend and wilderness teacher. She can do that no problem, and figure out the rest later. Ruby, on the other hand, kind of expects to be a disappointment to everyone, especially her grandmother. She's less of that than she realises, but basically, fuck you Regina.
Regulus will get his own comment.

His mother expects him to be the perfect pureblood scion. That pressure's only mounted starting with Sirius' Sorting, to the point where (as I've noted in yesterday's DE especially) he turned down the chance to be in something other than the family's traditional House himself. He does a lot to shut his mother up, but that was really out of fear for his life.
Bellatrix expects him to be every bit as enthusiastic about the Death Eater stuff as she is. Regulus privately thinks that anything Bella enjoys that much can't be good for one's long-term health and 'kill all Muggles' isn't going to get to the root of the problem... but again, a lot of the time he's motivated by not giving Bella a reason to hex him. Part of why I'm playing him from this point is to give him the chance to grow enough that he perhaps won't join up.
Everyone at Hogwarts expects him to be heavily invested in throwing his status around and act accordingly. A lot of people think he's damn near unapproachable because of that, but he doesn't mind that, in some ways; it cuts down on people who are only hanging around him because it makes them look good. (Poor boy could use some actual friends.)
Sirius expects his brother to be a clone, in ideology if nothing else, of their mother. Nnnnnnnot so much.
Regulus expects he's going to have to marry some twit someday, pop out a few kids, have some kind of job at the Ministry of Magic and... basically not enjoy his life very much.

The remaining Magypsies (minus a spoilery one) expect Lucas to pull their Needles and awaken the Dark Dragon, lest they fail and the Dragon falls to the whims of the Masked Man.
Lohengrin is expected to fulfill all of Prince Siegfried's orders. Currently, this is protecting Elsa from the forces (that is, the Raven) that wish to harm her and flushing out the Raven from where-ever he's hiding in Heinrich's kingdom. Unfortunately, these two goals are going to end up being pretty mutually exclusive.

Lois, at her age in Smallville? No one knows what to expect or doesn't xpects terribly much of her, least of all herself. (For all he fails as a parent, Sam does expect a lot of good from her. He just never says this.) On the other hand, in Milliways? Especially all the DCUers are going "OH! It's Lois! You're a prize-winning reporter! *Unsaid: and marry Superman.*" She refuses to acknowledge this.
Tavi: These days, Captain Rufus Scipio is pretty much expected to keep being a brilliant commander. Most friends in Alera and Milliways expect him to be remarkable and to succeed. Kitai expects him to be her Aleran, with shades of highly competent and badass. Marcus, Sextus, and Isana and Araris (reluctantly) expect Octavian to claim his birth name eventually. Tavi expects himself to do what he has to (whatever that means).

Hee, Charles understands some of what Lois is getting as many Marvelites go oh, you have a school to found and mutants to protect. He goes in time, perhaps, yes. He tries to not think about it too much.

He rather promptly threw off the first and last of those, by joining the Australian Military. He's kind of followed through and achieved the second. Indeed, he's beginning to eclipse his father in apparent talent.
Erik, expects himself to produce damn good research. Everything else revolves around this. Or rather, it used to. These days, he tries not to let it. He generally fails.
He also expects himself to live to the overall standards Jane's father did. Standards he certainly failed to attain while his friend was alive.
Alfred. Is employed in a very British role, in a very American city. People almost certainly underestimate him, mostly to the tune of "Oh, he's just the butler."
Which he is quite happy to let them believe. Makes keeping to his own (SAS based, in terms of fitness) standards a touch easier.
I have no ideas about any expectations people in Milliways have for these three, although only Jack has actually had extended contact with the bar, as of yet.

People expect Dixie to be Marlene Dietrich mated with Mae West. Dixie tries to live up to that one, too.
People expect Jules to be unfailingly sweet and polite - a weight she's put on herself, and something she's proud of.
Ponies expect Pinkie to make them smile, and she sure does try to!
