I can almost see it working, kinda, in an Usagi Yojimbo kind of way- if he can convince himself that his honor lies in upholding his word and offering good service to a bad master.

And also defeating the king's son's rebellion, because in this AU Hal is an upstanding, focused leader of men, though why he'd rebel against his own father when he's going to be king anyway... surely it would make sense somehow! And so the pull between the honorableness of good service and the honorableness of meeting the king's son in single combat... aldfjkghladfjkghl, it's still breaking my brain a little.
