It's way too hot to be September right now where I am, but we're verging on October right now, and that means it's an app_this_plz weekend, and you know you've got characters you want to try out.

"Um, yeah. You do. And flowers. The pretty purple ones from the mountain valley. How come?"

{ooc: Diaval can smell the magics of the world a person comes from so it seemed to make sense that Quentin would smell strongest of his own magic. I can change it if you like? That and Diaval can't tell the difference between iron and steel. It's all poison to him.}

(OOC: That makes perfect sense to me and no, don't need to change it. I just realized I wasn't clear before so wanted to make certain. While for Quentin, iron is awful death but steel is painful but he can deal.)

"Oh, oak and ash, how can you smell that?"

That's like what Toby can do but this man can't seem to tell what he is like Toby can, so that's confusing.

[intoaman]

"I can smell magic. I thought it was a human thing but all the men I've met here said they can't do it. And it's not a raven thing. Maybe because I'm both and neither." He shrugs.

[heatherandsteel]

"You're a raven?" He knows Jasmine, who's one but he doesn't feel the same as her, "What court do you belong to?"

[intoaman]

"I use to be. Now... I don't know what I am."

He shakes his head. "No court. I serve the lady Maleficent, Queen Protector of the Moors."

[heatherandsteel]

"I don't know who that is. Do you know the Kingdom of the Mists or Shadowed Hills?"

Maybe he doesn't which would make this place even stranger than he had thought.

[intoaman]

He shakes his head. "I've never been much further than the forests of Totemburg. Ravens tend to stay close to the territory they know. Unless something forces us to."

[heatherandsteel]

"Totemburg, I've never heard of that before," Which doesn't mean a lot, this Raven could be from a kingdom lost long ago.

[intoaman]

"Where are you from? The misty kingdom thing?"

[heatherandsteel]

"Yes, though its also known as San Francisco," He thinks he could probably take his disguise down but he doesn't know, "If I said I was Daoine Sidhe, would that mean anything to you?"

[intoaman]

"You're a fae. Anyone with half a brain can tell that."

[heatherandsteel]

"They shouldn't be able to, humans shouldn't. Will I be in danger for being Fae here?"

[intoaman]

"Humans are mostly very, very stupid." Diaval intones from considerable experience. "But most of the ones here are nice enough. There are other fae here and no-one really seems to care what you are as long as you don't hurt each other."

[heatherandsteel]

"I wouldn't do that. It only gets worse and then bloody,"

Quentin looks around the Bar to see if anyone's paying attention. This feels dangerous, but this Raven seems truthful. With another whiff of heather and steel, his disguise fades away leaving him with much more vibrant coloring and pointed ears.

[intoaman]

"Huh." He cocks his head to look at Quentin's ears. "You're prettier like that. Less man shaped." He's not overly fond of man-shape. Including his own.

[heatherandsteel]

He rubs at his ears, "Well, I'm not a man, I'm a Daione Sidhe. My name's Quentin."

[intoaman]

Diaval shrugs. "I'm a raven but I don't get to swap shapes on my own. I hate not having my wings." He bods his head in a bow. "Diaval."

[heatherandsteel]

"You don't? Why not?"

All the shifters he knows can change on their own unless they're Changelings and the balance of their blood works against them.

[intoaman]

He shrugs. "I'm not fae. I'm just a raven. My lady made me into a men to save me so now I serve her. Only she has the power to change my shape. I'm whatever she needs me to be." He doesn't resent it but it is hard.

[heatherandsteel]

"Oh, I see,"

That makes perfect sense, not the most pleasant reason to be changed but better than being dead.

[intoaman]

"So, what's your kingdom like?"

[heatherandsteel]

"Good, doing better than it was. There's a new queen."

[intoaman]

"And she's a good queen?"

[heatherandsteel]

"Yes, she is," Once she accepted that she was queen, Arden's taken up the mantle.

"That's good." He nods, "Strong queens protect the kingdom."
