AU week 2017

Ladies and gentlemen, and all beings in-between and beyond, AU (Alternative Universe) week is upon us again! And with the Mod-gods permission we invite you to mess with the universe your character is from.

The plot will run from the second August weekend onwards, that is, from 12th to 19th of August, Saturday to Saturday.

Alternative histories, re-written ending, or a different world all together – bring it on.

For one week, our characters get a chance to be an Alternative Universe version of themselves -- either collectively as a canon group, or individually. For example previous years the entire "Vikings" contingent were bikers, Hannibal Lecter was a vampire from the world of She Who Must Not Be Named, the Amis de l' ABC were from a Daemon AU, Rae Seddon was still Raven Blaise, having been raised by the magic-handling upper-class other half of her family, and Javert and Valjean were from that amazing modern AU of Write's that she is posting on AO3.

Bring your character in on a solo adventure, or team up with canon-mates for a collective AU. For those who have been around, you’re welcome to pick up for last year or start something new entirely.

For those who choose to play, the alternative universe will be the way it has always been for that character.

As with all things, threading should be fun - participation is entirely optional, unchanged characters are free to interact with the AU affected, and remembering what happened after it’s over is entirely discretionary.

As with other plots with drastic changes, like IMDb flu, people are completely free in their own charrie's reactions. So, if you don't want to do that, you can decide your charries simply haven't met the AU versions before, and just meet them as complete strangers. However, in order to hit the ground running when threading with a changed version your charrie always knew like this, coordinating your interactions per IM or PM might be very helpful, in addition to the OOC establishing posts for each character participating. Communication is key!

I might actually have an idea I can use. The problem is finding a way to take a character that's already absurdly OTT and ridiculous and changing it so it's still interesting. I think the only way to really go with that is to do something completely and totally different, rather than trying to AU up what's already been laid down.

So I'm thinking pirates. Pirates should be fun.

I would looooooove suggestions for AU ideas for Nori and Ganymede! I don't have any that are fleshed out enough to work, so I'd love for people to shoot me some thoughts!

Ooh, you could give one of them bird's wings, or try a demon AU, or make Noriko a scavenger from space, or bring in one of them from a world where everything has been magnetized, so skyscrapers are twisted and shrapnel flies everywhere, or one of them could be a tavern singer, or from the Wild Wild West, or they could be a paladin from some D&D-type 'verse, or make them telepaths, or make one of them have their own wildly successful cooking show, or they might be painters, or spies, or card sharks trying to eke out a living in Vegas, or living in Pompeii, or...

A sharkpeople AU would be fascinating! How do they breathe the air? Do they still have gils/fins/teeth? Do they have to drink a ton of water? Do they have to hydrate their skin with misters?

I have so many questions!

I was tossing the idea of using the Hunger Games AU for Jay - as a tribute/survivor. I could see that working for Nori too.

If you know/like Homestuck, what about a SBURB AU? Or there's the old standard of a Hogwarts/Wizarding World AU.

While I think I'm going to make a run at a The Chosen All Get Dark Spore'd And Go Evil (Except Hikari) AU for Yamato, I am very much open to ideas for an Eden AU, because it's tough thinking of one for him.

Okay, so, I already tapped out on a lot of ideas for Sage up above, but here are a few for Eden: Star Wars AU! Eden would be a terrifying Sith or an amazing Jedi--or if you don't want to go with either of those he could be a pilot trying to put food in the mouths of his two crossbred kids. He could be the host of the Wheel of Fortune, or a valet, or a microwave repairman with two kids and a midlife crisis, or a college student, or a vending machine stocker, or nothing about him has changed except that he's merged with Chirithy in a freak accident or ritual when he became a keybearer, or a thief ala Persona 5, or, continuing along the thief idea, one of Robin Hood's Merry Men, or a programmer who lives on Pop Rocks and Mountain Dew, or a high-profile lawyer framed for the murder of his mother, or a tattoo artist, or a child keybearer, or...

Ooh, a Star Wars AU idea is interesting, I might go for that. At the very least, Eden's-a-Super-Happy-Sith is getting added to the list (along with a Type-Moon AU where he's a Saber-class Servant, and a My Hero Academia AU).

At the moment I'm thinking Uni!AU for Sinric. Similar to the biker!AU but set much earlier in his person history.

Bodhi - I'm a little bit in love with the artist hvit-ravn whose drawn a series of pieces with Bodhi surviving but losing an arm and becoming an X-wing pilot. I'm open to thoughts from Rogue One canon mates.

Jay - I'm still unsure on. His canon comes with a whole lot of inbuilt AUs. Including Jason as a priest. But having binged the Hunger Games movies again recently, I'm also playing with the idea of him as a tribute/survivor being prostituted in the Capital (being Metropolis, of course.)

Thoughts, ideas, suggestion?

Any AU where Bodhi survives is a good 'un for me. Out of all of the Rogue One contingent, I feel he should have lived. Losing an arm makes total sense, and he'd have to deal with phantom pains and survivor's guilt.

I might be working out a way for Sabine to be Ahsoka's padawan....it's just a question on if I'll have the Jedi in hiding with the rebellion (which is being ground between the new Empire and the Separatist) or if the Clone Wars conflict has spread to three combatants; a greatly weakened Republic, the Separatists, and an empowered Mandalore lead by Maul. In both of these AUS, Anakin learned about Order 66 and things happened to change how Revenge of the Sith shook out.

I'm planning on doing my Leverage AU for Cassian and even did a write up of it last night. Someday I'll finish the fic. I don't know if I'll do anyone else as this one has kind of taken over my brain.

He'll be pre-canon in that AU but I do like the idea that with the AUs, its a chance for him to thread with Rogue One characters that he normally wouldn't due to timelines.

Can't wait. I keep itching to tag Cassian with Bodhi but it would end terribly. Do you mind AU!Bodhi confusing him for canon!Cassian? Could led to come interesting discussions.

Of course not, that's the fun and angst of AUs, but I do thread dead!Cassian over in PFSB if you ever want a canon compliant thread. When the time comes, I don't know what I'll do post canon with him but I like trying things in the sandbox, I've been testing the AU as well. And I really should be asleep but I'm having an odd night.

I'm thinking Survivor!Bodhi tried to reach Jyn and Cassian on the beach but couldn't reach them in time. And feels incredibly guilty for it.
