"We don't all have wings, Sam," she'd laughed as he pushed and pulled and bullied her, and somehow she'd found herself on the railing, weight shifting to keep her balance as the Paul & Darlenerocks gently beneath her, fingers curled around coarse nylon rigging.

"Kinda surprising you don't have wings, seeing as you're a chicken," he says now, grinning and treading water below her, and that's all it takes: she launches herself into the air and dives toward him like an avenging arrow in flight.

The one constant of every plan is that it goes wrong, that five or ten or a hundred minutes in, something happens that wasn't meant to and the whole damn thing goes up in smoke.

But there's that line – the fuzzy one that exists between perfect execution and utter chaos – and that, that is where she shines, where she thrives, where she brings the storm.
