Tuesday DE: I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral

More pilfering from the gallery today. Don't forget there's the Suggestion Box if you have ideas we can use for topics.

[personal profile] leeshajoy asked in chat:
What's the weirdest/most obscure thing you've researched in the process of playing your pup?

To which [personal profile] innerbrat replied:
What should you have researched but ceebs (short for “C.B.A” or “can’t be arsed”)?

Right now I have this open on my browser - a list of all things about wood in China. I am all the way down the rabbit hole here.

Both too much research and then ultimately ceebs for this boy's world: underwear in various historical periods from Imperial Rome through, like, Renaissance. I started to. Then I gave up.

I've learned a lot more about theoretical physics than I ever thought I would, due to playing Gaster - particularly linear accelerators.

I love researching and have done a lot, so I'm sort of blanking on the oddest I've ever looked up. Also I'll often research something then not end up using it.

The first thing that comes to mind is when I was playing Will Scarlett and spent a lot of time researching what foods he might know about. Also various fighting techniques before realizing that writing fights is hard, handwaving and understanding RP partners taught me it was okay to not stress too much. I dived a little into clothing before giving up. Playing a legendary version of the character helped for that.

William's the next one where I've done a fair bit of research, it helps that I find American history interesting but I found a site that gave estimated money conversions that was helpful. I soon gave up on some of the specifics especially with guns and horses.

In terms of my non-historical characters, it depends on the canon and all. For Sameth, I haven't done deep research into forging and making but now its something that I look out for. With Cassian, Wookiepedia is the best for deciding, how deep down a rabbit hole do I want to go?

Probably all the 5th century Welsh stuff I had to look up playing Cywyllog and Melou. It was a lot.

I had to look up the minimum height and weight of a US soldier in 1918 in order to get Wilson out of WWI; I wasn't as successful as I'd like, since I was only able to find the Navy requirements, but that's the most weirdly specific thing I've needed to know.
