Five Years!

June 30, 2004. Before the iPhone or Wii, before Hulu or Twitter. Before Civil War or Final Crisis. Before Lost or Supernatural. Before any of us had heard of Sarah Palin or Barack Obama. A day unlike any other. A day when an angel and a demon walked into a bar. The day that the Milliways Bar RPG was born.

Can you believe it's five years? Five years!

To mark the occasion, I cordially invite everyone to join me next Tuesday for a back room fourth wall breaking party. Come as yourself. Come as your first pup (as I plan to do), or your latest one, or anyone you've played in the game. Come in character, or come completely out of character. Come for the cake, stay for the crack!

MOD POST: even more cast list shenanigans

Okay guys, here it is: Stage 2 of the Great Cast List Reboot. I know, I was supposed to make this post yesterday, but there has been a slight delay with certain sections of the cast list. Certain of these are still pending, and will be added to this post as soon as possible, but I think we have enough to be getting on with.

Below is a list of all the characters that, so far as we can ascertain, have not been added to the new cast list. Once the month is up, if these characters have not by then been added, they will be BAHLEETED from the game - poof, gone, finito, most definitely not pining for the fjords, and ready to be apped anew, tabula rasa, by other players.

Now, the one thing we don't want to do is to screw with anyone's playing experience - and given the size and age of Milliways, there are certainly characters who, if rebooted, would cause a substantial amount of flail and AHHHHH WAT (amongst characters and the muns that have to play them) as well as the plain old disruption to history and continuity of the game. And nobody likes flail and AHHHHH WAT. Thus: the purpose of this list.

Take the time to peruse the list. Do it carefully, bring a drink and some snacks, 'cause it's a really long freakin' list. If you see any characters that you personally really, really need to not be deleted/re-apped, you can apply in the comments to have them retired. As per the new policy on character retirements, you will then be responsible for renewing that character's retirement on an annual basis.

Please do not retire characters lightly. If you are unsure, we have developed a ~*skientific*~ way of judging whether or not a character should be retired. From the FAQ:

It's up to you [whether you choose deletion or retirement] - but a good way to think about it is in terms of a hypothetical Time Travel Scenario. Which is to say: if someone travelled back in time and somehow prevented your character from ever entering the bar in the first place, would it really make a huge difference to the stories of other characters in the game? Really? Reeeaaaally? If the answer to that question is 'no', that it wouldn't make all that much difference to other characters, then you should go ahead and delete the character wholesale. If the answer is 'yes', that it would make a substantial difference to the stories of other characters in Milliways, then you should retire your character instead. What qualifies a 'substantial difference'? Once again, that's something only you can decide.

Likewise, if we have messed up somewhere and, for example, listed a character that is on the cast list (this is a particular possibility in the case of everyone who waited until the last minute to add their characters, while this list was already being compiled), or if you totes forgot to add your characters and need to do so now, et cetera, you can let us know in the comments.

In fact! We are SO well-organised that we have specific comment threads for each type of appeal/correction. Therefore, please only comment in the thread relevant to your appeal/correction. We're kind of anticipating a lot, so if you comment in the wrong place, it's more than a little likely to get lost in the shuffle.

Guys, you ALSO need to add any characters belonging to other players that you are applying to have/keep retired. You MUST add them yourselves, otherwise they will be deleted with the rest. Please remember to list these characters as [RETIRED].

ETA: AHHHH YOU GUYS. I tried to add a new section to the cast list, and it broke the word limit for the post! Therefore, this post now only lists from 10th Kingdom - Naruto.

WELL. I just tried to add another section to the roll of characters that have not yet been added to the new cast list, and, impressively enough, it sent the post over LJ's character limits. SO. I am breaking up the list into two parts, here being Part 2. As mentioned in the first post, some sections of this are still pending, and will be updated ASAP.
