I'm gonna let you in on a secret I just learned--most schoolteachers aren't bank robbers. Or train robbers either. The ones who are, they're fantastic at it; all that experience keeping a roomful of folks calm and under control, I suppose. I wholeheartedly recommend having one or two in your gang. But the fact is most don't do it, because they're busy doing things like teaching their students, and while that's great for the kids (they do need to learn things), it means they don't get their share of loot to buy things for their classrooms, and
this, my friends, is a sad state of affairs.
Sundance, Elzy, Curry, Carver, Bullion, let's ride out. Etta needs paper for the children to do their schoolwork on. Listen, Woodcock, I'm pretty sure these kids need writing paper more than Mr. E. H. Harriman of the Union Pacific Railroad needs fancy imported wallpaper for his barn. Come on, if we don't blow the money to confetti again this time we can maybe get them pencils too. Can you imagine? The good news is, nobody needs to rob banks
(although if teachers formed gangs and did so, lawmakers might suddenly find more money for the education budgets). The
amazing news is, our little charity campaign has already brought in $240 for school projects, including two that have gotten all their funding, in part from our donations. There's a class of kindergarteners in Indiana who will now have a writing station to keep all their supplies in, and 115 sixth graders in North Carolina who will have composition books to do their assignments in, not to mention two teachers who are starting the school year off with more excitement and a little less to worry about.
We did that.
And we can still do more. Just head on over
here. You get my thanks, the thanks of the teachers, the students and their parents, and all the warm fuzzy feelings you can handle.
(The calendar thing is still happening, by the way; just between 50-hour work weeks and the mad costume rush in the run-up to Dragon*Con it's on the back burner at the moment, but oh, it will be glorious)
