Guess who made it to work without their car protesting! \o/! Me, bitches, that's who.

Anywho! Onto the topic: Every fandom has certain litmus tests to see what level of way-too-involved you are. In my experience, a lot of the time, my way-too-involved starts to show when I explain very minute details of a scene/prop/whatever in a way that the average enthusiast might not know about.

Example? Where the hell is Wash's steering wheel?

Anyone else have experience with this?

And oshitz, Debi, I lose -- I ended up crapping out at light eight pm yesterday, so lemme go do your thing now.

ETA: Or someone else already took care of it. >_>;

INVISIBLE WHEEL.

(Check the email thread - there's one more thing I need)

I like to do the dance of fandom rationality way too much. Like, for instance, explaining that the reason Mel's tattoo appears blue in up coming issues of Buffy is colour changing ink OF THE FUTURE; or knowing why Lister has two appendices, or explaining exactly how the Luck Virus works.

As far as the average non-fannish person goes, I'm way-too-involved in DC comics by actually buying them.

I love fandom rationality. Coming up with ridiculous in-character reasons for shit is fairly essential in Star Wars.

Given the stories told on Fandom Wank, I cannot accept knowing minute details of canon as a level of "way-too-involved". Compared to what's been told on FW knowing minute details is normal.

*blinks*

When did that happen?

Anyhows, I am a fan of Doctor Who. I once spent a good 90 minutes of a car ride with two friends talking about building an entire theory of severely wacky concepts around having a different actor for the first Doctor in 'The Five Doctors'.

Also, I attempted to build my own TARDIS console as a kid. I have pictures of that, now.

Doctor Who is my way-too-involved fandom. Old school more than new. I can pull out way too much minute knowledge out of my skull.

I kind of do the same thing with X-Files. And by kind of I mean I do it like crazy. >_>

Oh, I'm sure I know bizarre little factoids about things in my various fandoms that would make a non-fannish person "bzuh" at me.

But I must say that I often find myself googling the most BIZARRE things for the sake of my RP.

I once tried to find a way to reconcile the Star Trek and DC Universe timelines so that the former could be in the same universe as the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Oh, I forgot already (maybe it is a good thing) how many hours I spent making up 'offscreen action' and covering up plotholes for my favorite stories (movie, book, tv). Nowadays I just think (most of thetime) "it is just a movie".

...Oh good LORD. [livejournal.com profile] shinyhappygoth and I have spent hours at a time arguing over the logistics of the ReBoot universe and attempting to reconcile it with how computers work in the real world. With very little success, I might add.

I remember having a long conversation with her one night about how Sprite hair grows. Because of an offhand comment Shulkie tossed at Enzo regarding getting a hair cut.

Edit: I should point out that I thought it was AWESOME.

I know that I'm far too involved in my canon details when I spent an hour one night with a bunch of players from another game figuring out the cracky science and genetics behind Siryn's sonic powers. I'd spent three hours that afternoon researching the physics of sound. Then I spent serious time trying to figure out how two sets of vocal chords would work (Terry has two sets, unlike her father Banshee).

I also seriously contemplated making a spreadsheet charting each issue of X-Force and where they were geographically in each issue, so I could figure out the timeline of their trip across country.

I also nitpick all the time about how Hawkgirl is depicted in current DC titles, because what she's wearing on her wrists and hands varies from issue to issue. Some issues she's wearing spiked cestus and studded leather gauntlets, other times she's shown wearing her lower arms wrapped up and three disks of Nth metal on each arm. The lack of consistency drives me NUTS.

...I'm currently trying to figure out the timeline of Herc, Amadeus, and Athena (or... Loki!Athena or Skrull!Athena, whatever she secretly is)'s roadtrip in the recent Incredible Herc issues.

Well, okay, "way too involved" (I just tried to use the American key for the " symbol, I don't even know why, anyway), I guess there's the part where I can tell you the backstory of every single Wraith Squadron pilot in great detail, and most of the Rogue Squadron pilots, too.

There's the part where about 50%~ of my reasoning for trying to learn guitar was so I knew what the shit Oz was talking about half the time.

I contemplated going to Russia on a teaching-English-thing because [livejournal.com profile] navyafterone went there on a fairly longterm mission (and is fluent in Russian).

I fully intend to visit Guthrie, Oklahoma.

And I am making my own plushie Gorog (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Nest).

My dork-tasticness can often be measured by how much time I have spent trying to figure out how tall people are in a canon. (I like knowing that sort of physical stuff, and it really bothers me when I don't know; it starts to get difficult with things like comic books, where you can't just look up the actor's height.) I'm sure there are other factors (like -- how much of a canon I can recite by heart), but that is the silliest one I can come up with at the moment!

AUGH STEPH DON'T WANNA TAKE TEST. *CLINGS TO LEG*

Well, there was the time I watched Sneakers just to try to sort out a timeline for playing through canon.
Daria fandom may have been the most ridiculous, though - but we all did it. See also: the ever-raging 'Where is Lawndale?' debate.

It all depends, really. Some things I think about in disturbing detail, somet stuff I just come up with reasons for so my brain won't hurt (fanon band-aid GO!), other stuff I just lol at and move on.

...Not that any of that was very specific. Um. All that comes to mind at the moment is the fun theories I have for Luke Smith's massicve psychic potential and how it works and why the heck he wasn't all traumatised at the end of the Lost Boy (answer: he came to Milliways and stayed there for a while.)

That, and Bart was totally going to catch those bullets towards the end of "Run". I'm not sure why he just didn't take the gun itself and therefore negate the need to catch bullets. Either way, I now snicker madly and go "YOU HAVE NO IDEA" at the dude when he asks Bart if he's faster than a speeding bullet.

...I watch episodes that contain my pups way more often than is possibly healthy. You really don't want to know how many times I've seen "Run" and "Justice" already.

I RAMBLE GUD.

When I was twelve, I was Will Scarlett for Halloween. I made myself a hat and my dad cut me a quarterstaff with his chainsaw.

Also I've told or written stories about Will from about that same age including a crossover with ST: TNG.

Oh and I took three years of Greek, I think that counts towards fan behavior to the Ancient Greeks. My head hurts, make it stop.

Um. I dunno. I used to know Mulder and Scully's badge numbers. I can tell you which episodes of the X-Files have Space: Above and Beyond cast members in.

While I was properly obsessed, I knew far far too much about Star Trek and Star Wars.

I've still got a pretty good grasp of who's related to who in the Tolkien books (and not just the LOTR books).

I think at the moment mostly it's a CRAZYTASTIC knowledge of what Guy is wearing in each episode of Robin Hood and in what other scenes/episodes he has worn whatever he is wearing in also. Like... the armless leather jacket he wears while fighting Robin in the woods gets reprised as part of what he's wearing under the Robo-Guy outfit. He wears the leather coat he wore on his wedding day, without the maroon shirt, for the German Count & casino extravaganza. He only actually gets the leather trousers about 5 episodes into season 2.

Crazy stuffs like that.

My memory is too lame and tired to totally obsess over much, but I know a whole lot about who was at Hogwarts during Tom and Minerva's time, and I have an amazing grasp on a totally imaginary Underside landscape. It's kind of scary, actually, how much I know about my vision of that world.
