I doubt this counts as a valid Back Room post, but...
BEN AFFLECK.
Tell me what to do with myself, people. Do I hate this?
I think I hate this.
Thank you, Georgia, for giving me a heads up. I am going to spend the evening saying nonono to the wall, I think.

Tea?
Something stronger?

Help.

I could see him playing a decent Bruce Wayne, maybe. But a decent Batman? Uh.

Like...what?

George Clooney has the advantage of being someone I fancy. *shallow*

I liked 300. And Man of Steel was OK, at least in places.

And let's note that way back when, there was a lot of uproar about Michael Keaton. And many of us - okay, maybe just me - accepted him completely.
I won't judge till there is a movie. Even if I think we really don't need this movie. And even though I skipped Man of Steel because people I respect didn't like it at all and even though I don't think I want to see anything Snyder does going forward.

George Clooney has won an Academy Award for acting (didn't see that one coming, tbh), and - well, everyone knows what the general opinion is on Batman And Robin. Though with that script, I'm not sure more could be done.
I've never had a problem with Michael Keaton's portrayal. Point is; the Batsuit seems to do weird things to talent.
Anyway - I guess it's just a case of waiting to see. I am just...of all the people that could have been cast - Ben Affleck. I am in shock.

I have no idea how old Christian Bale is, but Batman has always struck me as perpetually late twenties early thirties. Like, he was born as a muscular twenty-something with a growly voice, and Martha and Thomas Wayne were both like "Well, this is surprising," and one day he'll just die of old age without having visibly aged at all.
I hear he's a good actor, though? And he has a forehead and cheeks and at least one foot, and Batman has all those things too, so he's definitely well on his way to a physical resemblance.

I cackled louder than I should have. :D
Strangely, the first thing I thought was 'well, at least he's the right age' - so I guess that's a subjective thing. And he has the chin for it.
I think I'm just in shock, tbh. Like, of all the people in Hollywood - Ben Affleck. I think I sort of had the notion they'd cast younger, to match up with Henry Cavill. But perhaps they need a 'name', because HC isn't big enough yet - though Man of Steel has probably done enough to let him carry it on his own.
Basically, I just want to keyboard smash all night, until my brain makes sense of it.

I'm not sure how I feel about it really, except that Damon would have to get with a trainer and do lots of swimming before I'd believe him as Arthur. Though, if he did, he might do a pretty good job.
Though I'm not sure I can think of anyone as J'onn except for Carl Lumbly or Kevin Michael Richardson. (We will not talk about what David Ogden Stiers did for a paycheck back in 1997; I have too much respect for the man.)
I couldn't resist. COULDN'T.

Hollywood, why can't you be more like Canada?

Yes.
Yes, we can.

Also, any thoughts on who might work as an Alfred for him? Because I doubt Michael Caine will continue, (at least I hope he doesn't, his Alfred is so tightly bound up with Bale's batman/Bruce in my head at least.

And dude, I can't even get my head around him yet. But I will say that I really hope MC doesn't either, although I imagine he might.

No, but in seriousness, Affleck wouldn't have been my first choice -- I'm a Bale girl, for better and for worse -- but he's got some good films under his belt!
I saw a great roundup of negative Internet reactions to the news of Heath Ledger being cast as the Joker ("he can't act his way out of a paper bag!") so I feel that that is good perspective.

I will completely be glad to be wrong in my neg!fail. I mean, I hope he's great! I just...yeahno.
Nonono.
But hopefully yes.
