"Vinyl?" Hannibal says, approvingly. "Which recording?"

[repositorian]

"Yep, vinyl. I like records when I can get them; I don't think they're inherently better than mp3, but they're fun to listen to. I got the Sir Georg Solti recording, the one put out by Decca? It's the Vienna Philarmonic playing."

[cook_the_rude]

"Oh yes, that is one of the recordings my uncle has," Hannibal nods. "You should see the wall covered in square record shelves full of classical vinyl recordings he has. You'd probably never want to come out again."

[repositorian]

"Nah, I'd come out for food," she says. "It sounds like a fabulous music room, though. I don't have very many vinyl recordings, but I've got the Ring Cycle, Irwin Kostal's Fantasia soundtrack, and a couple others I've found. They're all on my bookshelves."

[cook_the_rude]

"What are you playing them on?" Hannibal asks.

[repositorian]

"On a turntable," she says, as if this might be obvious. "I have one that converts to mp3 and can function as just as regular player, too."

[cook_the_rude]

Hannibal raises his eyebrows and shakes his head, smirking.

"Of course a turntable," he says. "So you connect it to a computer, not a conventional stereo?"

[repositorian]

"No, I connect it to the television stereo," she says. "It has the better sound system, since my computer is a laptop."

[cook_the_rude]

"I do prefer a more traditional set-up," Hannibal says, "but then, you probably don't have an office of one and a half stories to fill with music as perfectly as possible."

[repositorian]

"You'd be right," she says. "I have a bedroom, no office. If I'm lucky it's quiet enough to listen to music. Your office must be pretty sweet, though, I'd love to see it."

[cook_the_rude]

"But you know it," he says, "theoretically. Don't you?"

[repositorian]

"Theoretically, yes," she says. "But theoretically knowing and literally knowing are two different things."

[cook_the_rude]

"You are a bold young lady," Hannibal says, smirking. "You'd really come and have a look at the lion's den?"

[repositorian]

"The only people who need to be afraid of lions are the people who act like prey," Kate returns with a hint of a grin. "And I try not to be overly rude to people, especially those likely to turn me into dinner."

[cook_the_rude]

"I think," he says, "that may be arranged. Bring your flute."

He gets up from the seat by the harpsichord.

[repositorian]

She raises a brow. "What, right now?"

[cook_the_rude]

"Do you think we'd ever get a chance to meet again like this, between realities?" he smirks.

[repositorian]

"Point taken, but if I'd known I was going to meet you I'd've dressed nicer for class," she says, looking at her clothes. At least she actually has shoes with her; they're low-cut chucks, but they're clean.

"And I doubt you have clothes in my size."

"You are quite well as you are, with your paisley tie skirt," he says, leading the way towards the door.

[repositorian]

"You know," says she as she hoists her bag up to her shoulder, and collects her shoes with the socks stuffed into the toes, "I made this thinking about you. Which sounds an awful lot more like flirting than it should."

[cook_the_rude]

"I am always happy to inspire the creative and gifted youth," Hannibal smiles, opening the door.

Beyond, there's what seems to be his waiting room: some comfortable chairs and historic prints on the walls.

[repositorian]

She laughs and follows him through. "Oh, hey, no waiting," she says. "Nice."

[cook_the_rude]

"One line, no waiting, very simple," Hannibal says, opening the door to his office.

It's evening, and only some small occasional lamps are lit, making the large space seem darker and more cavernous than it is in daylight.

[repositorian]

"Whoa," she says, looking up and around at the rather huge office as she makes a turn. "You always keep it this dark in here?"

[cook_the_rude]

"I don't like the merciless lighting from above some people use," Hannibal says. "I can see everything I need to."

With a gesture, he offers her a seat on the powder blue sofa.
