re: the farm, part of what got deleted is that he's not from the same canon as Avengers 2 (since while I adored it, it clashed with millicanon that I also adore!)

... I think when Fury got suspicious he reassigned him to Antartica to keep him out of the line of fire. Either that or he was taking a nap in San Diego and his phone was broken and Natasha REALLY HATES HIM RIGHT NOW
