Have a short fat Maru in gym clothes, with a big red feline friend, curiously peering inside the bar.

And now there's a tall, also fat woman dressed as Luigi--complete with moustache--waving at her from one of the tables.

Maru comes wandering over, the cat following very carefully. The cat is as cowardly as he's long, and he's very long.

"Hi, Cass," his human says. "I like the mustache."

"Thanks," she responds, holding a hand out for the cat's inspection. "I've been trying to grow one but just couldn't get it to work in time for the holiday, so this store-bought one will have to do. How are you?"

"I've been busy," she says, sitting down, "and have to go in to work tomorrow as well even though I hadn't meant to. On the pro side, there will be Loki tomorrow. And pumpkin ice cream!"

The cat is curious, but doesn't quite come into arm's reach.

"Ugh. Best of luck at work. But huzzah, Loki!" Cass says, still holding her hand out for the cat. She'll retract it soon if the animal doesn't move.

"And oh, wow, pumpkin ice cream," she says, flashing a quick grin. "That's mouthwatering. You know you've just sealed my fate regarding going to the grocery store tonight, right?"

"I don't know if it's mouthwatering," Maru says. "The Nazgul found it and is bringing it tomorrow. We'll have it after coming back from the movies."

"Man, that is both pumpkin and ice cream--two of my favorite things--in a bucket," she says. "I hope you have a lovely time at the movies."

"That is a foregone conclusion," Maru says. "There will be Loki. I'd watch two hours of Loki reading the telephone directory if I had to, so this will be much more entertaining in any case."

Cass nods rapidly. "He's kind of a trip, isn't he? I like how expressive he is," she says, withdrawing her hand from the cat's airspace. "Which movie is it? As you probably know, I'm out of the loop when it comes to pop-culture."

"Thor -- The Dark World," Maru says. "It opens a few days earlier here than it does over where you are. I will have about a week to quietly gloat in chat and smirk smugly at spoilers."

The twenty-something in tawny business casual and leonine face-paint (with a mane of curly brown hair) beams at Maru, waving.

"Nothing terrifying so far. Maybe it'll be a quiet fourth-wall breakage."

"Hannibal is talking to Cass," Maru says, pointing. "It might get scary after all. Hi, Saph!"

"Oh dear," says Saph, hiding behind her teacup. "Hiya, Maru. Happy almost-Halloween."

"It's Halloween tomorrow," Maru says, "but the Nazgul and I are going to celebrate with Loki, and pumpkin ice cream."

"The plan for tomorrow is that my boyfriend is coming over, and we're going to have homemade soup, watch old Hitchcock films, and give out candy to trick-or-treaters. I'll have to carve my last pumpkin tonight - I have two done already."

"Trick-or-treaters aren't all that common here yet," Maru says. "Which is lucky. I'm not Hannibal, but I might be inclined to scare them witless on purpose. Especially if it was Laeticia and Elena."

Saph pauses.

"See, now I'm wondering if he gets trick or treaters at Halloween. Depending on his neighborhood in Baltimore, he might."

"We could ask him, if we dared," Maru says. "Write is asking quite candid questions as well, and so far, he doesn't look offended at all."

"Should we trust his facial expressions?" she asks. Even if he doesn't look offended...

"Well, let us be practical," Maru says. "This little shindig will be over before he has time to collect anyone's business cards, if he even feels inclined to."

"I can still be glad I didn't even bring any business cards. They are safely in my office."

"I don't have any," Maru admits. "What would they put on mine anyway? Data base wrangler? Dragonslayer at large? Bellwether? Hunter-~~gatherer~~?"

"I'm gonna stick one of mine in his pocket," says one Kate with a kind of grin that indicates A) too much fun going on and B) not nearly enough calm to cover it all.

...Considering said card has the information for a social dancing group on one side and 'You're Hot, Dance With Me' on the other you miiiiiiiiight want to not let her do that.
