Ladies and Gentlemen, as so many others this month I am here to provide an OOC note about a new
character I picked up. The pertinent information is in his profile, linked above, but for what little sanity's sake remains I'm going to copy it here:
Mr. Vampire is distinctive by having
completely different subtitles and dubs. One memorable situation goes something like this:
"We need to get him to a hospital!" "There is no hospital!" "We're between two villages, there must be a hospital!" "I'm telling you, this is a low budget film, there is no hospital!"
and
'We need to heal him!' 'I know, lets get him home.'In the spirit of this, I will be offering all players a choice:
Meta-charged, crack, totally 4th-wall breaking "speech" or not-so-cracked
'speech'. Any given character will hear "speech" or
'speech', but not both. Every comment will contain both anyway for the purest form of crack. The action text will be the same.
I'm doing this because I'd love to be able to play him with as many characters as possible, not just the for-crack ones...which doesn't mean I don't want to play with crack characters! Anyone who choses for any given character the
'speech' option will get a somewhat weird but very devoted vampire hunter. Anyone who chooses to inflict "speech" on their character will pretty much get whatever crack is going through my brain at the time with relation to the situation.
Each player can decide for each of their characters which that character hears. It's perfectly alright with me if 9 out of 10 characters for one pup hear
'speech' and the other hears "speech". What is important for me is consistency. If Danii decides that Garion hears it when Master Kau is "Talking like this", I'd prefer it if he doesn't then react to
'something said this way'. However if someone wants to get together with me and decide to subtitle their character for the sake of Kau's threads, I'm fine with that too!
As a final note: the player points at things and reads numbers off in Chinese restaurants. I know that the Firefly crowd has worked very, very hard to incorporate Chinese into their play and that's damn impressive. I won't be going there. I'm going to do it all in English, he's going to be complex enough to play without adding a language I don't know.
